Hi All

Wanting to put SS backbox, ITG Filter and Link ECU on my car but am concerened about trashing my warranty.

Has anybody had any experiece with these three and warranty issues. Is it easy to unplug the link and plug in the Standard ECU for services Etc.

Your help is appreciated.

As I understand it the Link is a complete replacement ECU, so it would be difficult to keep swapping them.
Whether the dealer would know or not is another matter.

Yes - this would almost certainly void the driveline warranty. You should be ok for non-related components e.g. body, trim, suspension, bodywork, electrical etc. It really depends on the goodwill of the dealer submitting the warranty claim, or the nature of the problem that occurs.

How the supplier of your link will warranty their work should be closely looked at - is their liability limited to the cost of purchase, do they provide a written guarantee to document these provisions?. As always, the best suppliers compete on quality of service, and will look after you properly if you have problems.

Sorry - forgot to mention that it is dead easy to swap ECUs. takes 10-15 minutes tops. Not that this would help if you go back to your dealer with a piston sticking out of the side of the block - they're not daft.

It will definitely void your warranty if the dealer finds it. If something goes wrong with the engine (and especially on a car like the Scoob) one of the first things they look at is the ECU.

If you can swap it easily before servicing etc. then it should be ok.

 

but can you swap it over without anyone (the dealer) knowing.

Also it is worth finding out if the installer/manufacturer of the replacement ECU will cover you for anything that fitting it will remove from your Subaru warranty.

Then there's the issue of insurance - and whether you'll tell your insurer, whether they'll charge more etc.

My car is only 3 weeks old so lots of warranty left, does anybody know of any reasonable dealers who may be kind to us scooby modifiers. The car is a company car and the insurance is not a problem as the company have authorised it.

What about the PPP, I assume that will not void my warranty.

Heh heh is all I can say. Do you not think the dealers and prodrive read this board ?

So any chance you had of doing a warranty claim just flew outta the window imho.

Do you think its right that you buy something with a guarantee, mess about with it and then try to fiddle a warranty claim ? Antics like these means that when genuine people have troubles Subaru will try and wriggle out of it.

Scoobs - Lee's got a point, but I reckon you'll get away with it if you use your real name and not 'Scoobs' when you book your services - d'oh! oh, and don't feel too guilty, I wouldn't.

Swapping ECUs may be quick, but you'll want the Knock and Lambda sensors with the Link which may be more difficult. These are both very useful units which I was originally sceptical about but now wouldn't be without. Thanx to BR Developments on recommending them.

You could of course wire the knock and lambda units into the Link ECU itself and use a couple of multiplug connectors..then when you remove the ECU all the extra bits come out too. The multiplugs mean you can remove the display units for knock/lambda whenever you want too.. Thats what one clever chappie did

I'd rather not fiddle warranty claims if they arrose, that is wy I am asking for advice on these ecu upgrades. You are quite right that If you fiddle with a standard car then you may have to pay a price of lost warranty. Wouldn't mind so much but the car is a company one and if I trashed the engine then they wouldn't be too pleased.

Can somebody clarify the PPP upgrade, as to whether this voids my warranty. It may not be as good as a link, but beggers can't be choosers.

The PPP is the only option that will not invalidate your warranty

As Sunil says the PPP will not void your warranty as it is actually offered by Subaru as an option.
The performance pack is very good on 99/00 cars and comes as a complete package not just a chip change.
It may not give as much power as a well tuned link but it does up power to 240bhp.
