Default Performance without the noise?

Probably going completely against the grain of 95% of Scooby owners but I'll ask anyway
I've just brought a standard 53 plate blob eye. If I wanted to extract more performance out of it am I always going to have to go for one of those window shattering exhaust systems?
Ideally I don't really want to increase the noise of the exhaust but in doing so am I limiting the gains from a remap etc?

you may just have to resort to some form of custom exhaust, it doesnt have to be loud at all and you can still have a tidy amount of performance still.

you just need to have a couple of good sounds deadening resonators welded in to the exhaust pipework

I had a standard MY05 WRX ..... and was really worried that having it PPP'd would make it too noisy. I posted on here, considered people's comments and then took the plunge.

The PPP exhaust does away - as I understand it - with one cat and is then just a straight through rear section. It is not at all loud .... more rather pleasing and certainly, on the inside at least, not at all intrusive.

If you don't want to PPP I believe the Prodrive rear section is effectively the same.

The exhaust is louder outside the car but not at all bad.

As I say, I didn't want a loud exhaust on my Scooby - I've a TVR for serious noise - and am very, very pleased with the PPP conversion - not too loud at all and the remap that isn't all about 100% power.

Keeping the standard exhaust on a Scooby should be a crime as the noise from the engine is lovely ...... but not everyone wants a full decat, etc and the noise that goes with it.

I am one of those that wants a bit of noise but not too much. I need a car that I can drive when I have a headache and not get the feeling it will make it worse - the PPP'd WRX certainly fits that bill ..... the TVR definitely doesn't !!!

Thanks for the replies.
John, sounds like I need to source one of those exhausts then!
Best start searching for info about which cats the Prodrive exhaust does away with. One thing I don't want to have to worry about is swapping exhausts come MOT time (1st one in Sept ).

Pretty sure Hayward and Scott can make it as quiet as you want it.

Try Revolution. A performance exhaust, not loud inside the car, nice noise outside.

i've had a full decat and IHI VF24 installed on my 03 WRX, I have kept the standard twin peashooter back box.

It looks normal, sounds normal but at at 320bhp goes like stink, uprated backboxes who needs them....

ohhhh cheers for all the replies.
Lots of options

now.... which one's cheapest

Actually, I had a full Scorpion de-cat system on my Classic Scoob. Loved the sound of it but it would be too loud for me now

Do Revolution do a 2.5" system?, I believe the one shown on their site is 3".

I still found Revolution 3" too loud compared with the Prodrive exhausts. With three extra silencers added it was bearable.

If it is a Revolution system it does not need any additional silencers. Maybe it was an old worn out system or not Revolution or only part Revolution.
Why fit a 2.5" system when a 3" is available?

Iv'e got a 3" to 2.5" downpipe.

I was also of the understanding that a 3" system did'nt give the same sort
of performance as a 2.5" system on a mildly modded car ??

Just another Scooby myth mate.
Select a sytem that gives proven and accepted gains like a Revolution. At your level that is far more important than whether it is 2.5 or 3" but I would go for 3" every time.
See the other exhaust thread also running.

Harvey, I bought a complete new system from Revolution. It benefitted from extra silencers.

I was able to compare:

Stock new Revolution system from turbo back
Ditto with resonator added to centre section
A further modified centre and backbox bought from Alan Garrod which had three extra silencers

The second and third options I tried on the same day.

Three extra silencers ? That must be one of the reasons you never achieved your power expectations

And what about the extra weight ?

It was a bit heavier, but no difference in power which exceeded expectations

fitting my revolution system tomorrow
the system comes in 3 parts . first part has adaptor that sleeves into the pipe with a flange to fit any 2.5" down-pipe flange, then another sleeve to fit another bit which then sleeves into the back box, you get all the neccessary bits, gasket for downpipe then 3 big good clamps for the remaining sleeves.
and at £285 for the whole lot it has to be worth it.

looks absolute quality stuff and can't wait to lose that blitz
