Whilst washing my Coupe R, I noticed a patch of paint, bottom on the front wing, behind the wheel has flaked off. The metal looks like its ali !!! IS this true ?? the area effect has lost a good 2 inchs of paint work and hte metal llos like its corroded.

Im going to get a touch up paint tin and fix this area but want to know that if the metal is ali, do I treat if different than if it was steel?? Can I just rub it down and paint over it ??SBK

Based on all the dents in my car - I reckon they are made out of Alcan Foil(tm).

I'm sorry trout, but everyone knows they use recycled KIT-KAT wrappers.

Seriously though, if the surface looks corroded, then it can't be 'Ali'. Rub it down gently, get some primer and paint on it before they start salting the roads.

I thought that wings were made from feathers, bone and muscley bits!

Soft Cornish Tin, I thought, although it's probably a thin gauge steel, even though ali does corrode and oxidise, the cost of the car would probably significantly increased.

monkey. metal

If it's going orange rusty, it's steel. If it's just going dull and kind of furry, it's ally. I'd suggest a gentle rub down, till it's shiny, a coat of primer and then touch up.
