I am collecting a secondhand S/S downpipe today. I recal a thread some time ago about ceramic? coating for this and possibly the turbo. Can anyone help? Failing this do you need to trim and refit the heat shields to the new downpipe in some way?

you can lag it if you want to, but if not dont worry. Repositioning the heat shields after fitting it is a good idea. Ceraminc coating you refer to sounds like the hpc coating which (you can have done) that comes on the bpm downpipe. This is for anticorrosion as well as heat refelction reasons. I doubt you would notice any difference.

BL*ODY typical.....most of us just go for the standard exhaust wrap, or "ceramic" coatings.....you however, are a flash g*t, and have to go for cera"MINC" coatings

Exhaust coatings are worth while, and will reduce under bonnet temps. It's quicker, easier, and cheaper to use exhaust wrap on the d/p though.

The turbo heat shield will need a bit of modding, to fit most of the de-cat d/p's.

Just got a new Magnex DP for my 98MY GT and I want to ask you if the existing heatshields can be refitted or not.
I understand that leaving it without these the underbonnet temp will be increased so what can I do for it?

It's not worth trying to refit the d/p heatshields. Get a roll of exhaust wrap (2"/50mm) and wrap from the turbo flange, down to the mounting bracket.

Do I have to make the same with the ex tractors from BPM ? I think they are not HPC coated.

I refitted the top heatshield when I did my downpipe, but it requires some artistic butchery with an air powered hacksaw

Main reason for me was stealth

Can you refit all the bolts to the turbo heatshield with an aftermarket downpipe.I had a quick look and some of the lower bolts seemed to be bolted to a bracket on the downpipe.If some bolts are left out does the heatshield rattle?

Andy, my heat sheild rattles and is bog standard (no mods - yet ). I believe that this is an "undocumented feature" with this car

 

If you fit after market headers, you certainly want to wrap them. You'd be amazed at just how hot they get. Without wrapping, or some sort of heat shielding, your under bonnet temps will increase dramatically.

Just fitted them yesterday at the local Subaru service here in Greece.
Falkland downpipe and BPM headers.Guys there protected only the wiring that is infront of the headers at the down side of the cooler.

Is that enough or I have to wrap aal the headers?

The difference at performance is huge, it revs very fast until the 6000rpm with no lug and the Sound now is different. Lost that characteristic sound of Scoobs and is like an Alfa Romeo, but it does nt matter.

Ask Stephen Done about heat wraping on his exhaust manifold.
I am waiting Power Engineering's answer about my manifold, and Falkland's answer for the downpipe. Keep the existing Turbo heat shield, as Stelios can explain you it needs only minor mod, but for the manifolds are contrasting opinions!
