Anybody done this?

Just in the middle of changing disks and pads and need to put the new disks on - the handbrake pads are fouling the new disk due to them being new!

You will probably have to wind the piston in on the caliper mate?

No!

It is simple.
1
Get inside the car with both the front seats right forward on their runners.
With a cross head screwdriver find the screws in the rear trans tunnel moulding (one each side at the rear) about where the seat belt recievers are. Remove both.
3
Find the third screw in the small 'compartment' right at the rear of the moulding. Remove it too. (where you might keep your mobile)
4
Remove the moulding completely (a real pain)
5
Follow the 2 handbrake cables that are now clearly visible to their end that is a 6mm (iirc) threaded end with an adjustment nut. This terminates at the base of the handbrake handle pressing.
6
Screw the nut further down (I hope nobody has been there before you) the bolt which effectivly shortens the cables.
Do this until the handbrake lever 'clicks' up about 5 or 6 clicks to full 'ON'
7
Replace it all!

Job done.

Graham

How do you know if its an out of adjusted handbrake handle or worn shoes ??

i suppose i could start off with getting my lever to click only 6 times, as it clicks about 20 and is still crap at stopping the car on hills !!

so its prob both in my case

always adjust at the shoes first before adjusting the cables!

it's easier with the discs off but there is a toothed wheel at the bottom of the shoes just turn it one way to adjust out and the other to adjust in dead easy, or if your feeling a bit more adventurous you can go through the rubber bung in the backplate with a screwdriver and do it that way.
