Default Advice from the Mappers required...

I'm about to take out the air box snorkel and replace with a GP moto intake elbow:

If I stick in an STI panel filter at the same time, will I need to have a remap? I'll also be fitting a set of Harvey's ported headers soon.

I know that a remap will get the best out of these simple mods, but will it be safe to fit them without a remap?

Any advice you can spare would be appreciated.

Ported headers will probably make it overboost, least they should.

Not much point spending money on the snorkel just remove the OE item and leave it at that, watch boost though.

Bob, cheers for the reply. Should I leave the standard panel filter in place or go for the STI one? I've got a set of DEFI's fitted so I can monitor boost when the mods have been done.

I'm running Tesco 99RON fuel, will this handle any slight overboost ok?

Anders, the STi one wont need a remap, it gives you better breathing towards the top end of the rev range, i noticed a considerable difference from 6.5k upwards, much more free revving (plus 12bhp and 15lbs of torque increase!).

Tony, so you got 12bhp without a remap? What car have you got and what other mods have you done? When it comes to insurance, I was only going to quote 5bhp for the panel filter and 15bhp for the headers. I better play safe and tell them 12bhp for the panel filter.

The STi filter is a service item, just tell them that i know that my insurers were not bothered that i replaced the original panel filter with an STi one.
My car is an MY03 JDM STi Spec C, only mods are a backbox (like for like) and the panel filter, was tested at 2k miles on the rolling road, 2 runs before, change and 2 runs after, really can feel the difference towards the top end of the rev range where it once felt restrictive it now doesnt standard JDM fuel map also.

Anders what car do you have, assuming WR1 then you "might" have a problem as the car has already been tweaked by ProDrive, if you had a std ecu of that model year then I would also say no need.

Tony forgive the warning but not everyone's car is fueled as richly as yours iyswim.

Bob, cheers for the advice. I've just posted a question on the wr1oc to see if anyone has been running one. If nobody is, I'll play it safe and leave the OEM filter in place. Not worth melting a piston over a few bhp.

True Bob, mine does run quite rich, though i thought Mike Wood said something about them having tried the STi panel filter out on the WR1 and found it didnt make that much of a difference to be added to the WR1 package?

Indeedy however that assumes a std car.

My main point is that the WR1 has already been remapped, that means its not got the possible lattitude a std ecu might allow.
