do need a remap?
just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on if i will have to get a remap.ive got ported headers,3"ss exhaust straight through, apexi air filter unit and an intercooler off a sti 99, all these parts i am putting on my 95 wrx import.ive bin told i could run it with a knocklink without a remap,or will i need a remap as soon as i put these parts on,or will it be ok to run it without remap or a knocklink.
cheers in advance guys.

I have a full decat and have been advised by a few people in the know that i should get a remap - dont be scared of driving it but apparently if you hammer it, it can run lean which is not good - get it remapped and it will be quicker and safer
As cheif has said, with that many changes a remap would bring all of it together and you will see a better improvment in performance as well as ruling out any knocklink activity so your car will be operating more safely

You could try Prosport mate - they are pretty good . although i am getting Andy F down to do mine
I have recently had mine done at Powerstation, after I organised a Group Buy for Tek3.
Done on rollers, with det cans etc. - included a laminated dyno printout.
Group Buy price still stands (£499+vat) I think, no good for you as they are in Tewkesbury but gives you an idea of the price.
Have a look here I took some photos and did a bit of a write-up:

Just realised that yours is a 95, so Ecutek would be no good for you.
Scoobyclinic will remap your ECU though, they are in Chesterfield?

Navigate to Tuning-ECU Mapping, looks like its £380.

A 1995 WRX cant be re-mapped Im afraid. Your only real option is a replacement ECU (unless Scott can sell you a ScoobyECU CPU for the old price; a new so-called ScoobyECU costs damned near as much as an A'PEXi to which its totally inferior).
Id recommned an A'PEXi PowerFC at about £750 fitted and mapped by either Andy Forrest or Paul @ Zen.

The answer to your question is basically yes, get it mapped, not remapped
as you can't on the older cars.
You have two options get a Scoobyecu from Scott Taylor (Via ebay)
and give him your cars spec, he will then provide a chip to suit the cars
current state of tune, or...
go for a full replacement ECU such as the Apexi Power FC.
The FC is a stand alone unit and has multiple mapping points, so in the
long run if you decide to take your car to another level it can quite easily
be done.
Speak to Pavlo (Paul Balamire @ Zen Performance)
He will provide and map for £800 + VAT (Include Commander)

My RB5 has just had a manifold fitted and a staight through system but MOT due in 6 months so cats will have to go back on. Will this need un-mapping to get it though the mot or is it safe to run around for a bit with the cats fitted even if i get it remapped before then!?
The Intercooler may cause it to over-boost at worst or run maybe 1psi of boost higher due to it being better then the slanty WRX item with less of a pressure drop.
The decat won't really need it to be remapped as it's a 95 WRX and should be running at 12.7psi on a Z4 ECU, so pretty safe.
The one thing that can **** things up and isn't worth fitting IMHO is the Apexi induction kit.
These can confuse the ECU and cause detonation. In some cases your torque can drop quite a bit.
Flog it and chuck on a standard air-box with a Green of JDM STi panel filter.
Both of these are good for 350BHP.
If you want to run more boost then get a remap. If your happy running approx 13psi then there shouldn't be much of an issue IMHO.
IIRC the issue with decats and the need for remaps only really applies to later 97-99 STi's. And maybe the STi 1 RA (which runs very lean as standard).

A remap may be needed ,but if you could get someone to monitor your car with a det can and wideband o2 sensor you may find it is running within safe limits. I do doubt this though, but its the only safe way of testing to see IF a mapping session is required and keep the engine running safely (although it may not be as efficient as it could be).
I used an APexi PFC and had it mapped by AndyF
