Default Painting a FMIC...

...I have been thinking about this for a wee while.

Would painting a FMIC black, hinder/help performance or make no difference at all??

Cheers,
Grant

In theory yes, matt black is the best colour.

In realistically you probably wouldnt notice a difference...i think they look better in black tho, more stealthy!

I ran mine unpainted for a while, then painted it black with spray can and lacquer. noticed no difference in effeciency whatsoever. IMHO they look better when painted as well.

I have to say FMIC's look so much better in matt black, when they are shiney and paraded around on show it looks a bit tacky.. Its a bit like walking around with a gold chain hanging out of your jumper.

I'm sure the scientists will suggest that black has greater heat absorbing properties then reflective bare metal. In reality, I doubt it makes any perceptable difference.

Thanks for the replies... the 'standard factory' look really appeals to me as well. They all look sooo much better in Matt Black, IMO.

Thanks Mick. I may be having the full rally look this season; PIAA, Denso and Snap-on have offered me £32.50 (each!) if I can guarentee them at least 40secs exposure on the SouthWestScoobes DVD.

It's tough at the top

How about getting it anodized black, would look better and be more hardwearing IMO

I've had a conversation about this recently myself

I'd take it down the spray shop and get the whole lot... pipes and all done in Silver

Definately with the matt black guys here, matt back everything, pipework the lot...and black silicone hoses on teh joints, make it look like thats the way it came out the factory....can beat a stealthy sleeper IMO....and to be fair if you need a front cooler you really should be looking at 300bhp as the std item should cope with up to and around 290bhp from what i have gathered from speaking to tuners.

all my pipework is black as well. powder coated not anodised. powder coating is VERY hard wearing and a damn sight cheaper than anodising something of that size.
