Default Track car gurus, ideas please...

ok, a new job gives me access to all manner of machinery, and help/knowledge etc, so I fancy its time to get some ideas together for something to get working on. If I had the money ( like 10K for the 2 cars + 5K budget to slap em together ), I reckon this & this could make a tremendous combo, all fly by wire, etc, but I dont have that kind of till.....

so, its the cheaper end of the market, something small, like a lupo/polo/205/106, but with a FWD engine, box & suspension whapped in the back on a subframe...i.e, polo with 1.8T, or 106 with ???

It doesnt need to be road legal, it will be stripped to nothing, so what would you lot suggest???

What is your budget for a year? Its more important than your budget to buy a car in the first place.

For example .....

Cheap hot hatch car cost circa £1K
Cost to prepare (cage, seat, harnesses, brakes, suspension) £1K
Cost of tyres £200
Then its the years running costs, tyres, pads, plus repairs to stuff that will go wrong. Maybe another £1K

So I would say £3K is pretty much as cheap as it gets for one years fun....

That doesnt included entry to the tracks in the first place of course.

Somewhere around £160 - £200 entry plus fuel......

Im not a lover of 205's without the std 8 valve engine, yes they are fast Mi's for instance BUT they are less reliable. It depends if you want to spend half the year driving it or repairing it?

Making your own car is much more fun than buying one already done. You can tailor it to your own needs and llearn loads on the way.

Road legal is better IMHO as it means when you have the car worked on you can road test it etc. Much better than something which can only be driven on the track. Doesnt stop you taking a set of slicks when you go to a track though
