Default should i shouldnt i??

What do you guys reckon about buying a uk wrx y plate with 80k miles on it?? Are there any big problems to look out for on these and would they be ok with that sort of mileage??

i used to own a MY99 uk turbo and i know they had all the MAF problems and engines going bang etc, are these problems cured with the bug eyes??

cheers

Mine went bang with only 55k on the clock and full service history, but then theres a wagon for sale (bugeye) with 146k on it in the for sale section.

depends on how the car has been looked after....which can be impossible to tell

My 02 has 81k on clock but is mainly motorway, whereas Cliff's was clearly thrashed to death so died at 55k

impossible to say , i had a 10 year ole sti with <50k miles ,seemed fine..
i somehow imagine that higher miles on a lump that produces as much power as the wrx *must* consequently be more of a concern than say a 3l diesel
what do i know im 1/2 sloshed...

Hi i've got 116k on a MY98 UK and i bought it with 83k 3 years ago,in that time i've had no problems at all except a split radiator, but its got full main dealer service history which i've kept up.

In my opinion i'd look for service history, and watch out for the expensive 90k service

I'm looking at buying a W plate wrx with 100k miles on and the way I look at it is if it's been serviced by a main dealer and on time I don't see any reason to not buy it... I guess a standard car woudl also be an advantage with high mileage as you know the car's not been pushed hard.

Obviously price comes into it... so make sure the price is right considering the mileage

Coming over to the dark side Jon. Hope the 205 is still around for when you need a quick car?

Weren't you running straight through from the downpipe onwards and melted piston 3 mate?

Sounds to me like it was running a bit lean, getting too hot etc.

Standard cars shouldn't have any problems with engines going bang early - neither should those mapped for exhaust mods.
