Been seeing a few posts recently about shoddy fuel ecomomy on STIs, so I thought I'd post the results of 2 months of logging petrol receipts on the WRX300.

Start date: 01/12/05
End date: 31/01/06

Miles covered: 3,427
Total spent: £523.98 (gulp)
Total Litres:548.56
Average: 28.4 mpg


Highest: 32.7 mpg-115 miles, 15 mins town, rest on motorway "around" 70.
Lowest: 22.5 mpg-148 miles, several short, "fun" local runs.

Notes:
I started recording the economy after I'd done the 1000 mile service for info.
I live in a very hilly area of Kent, with lots of narrow (empty) roads, but the bulk of mileage is on motorways.
Most amazing result: 28.1 mpg, A303 M3 to Axminster and back, with a fun hour HARD country road driving inbetween, showing someone just what the Scooby can do !!
Cheapest petrol: 90.9p (Reading J11), dearest petrol 100.9p (Fleet M3)

I get about 27mpg average, can never get a good motorway figure to improve it, as i cant keep myself to about 80

I used to get 27mpg ave out of my WRX (TEK3 map).

 

27+ mpg!!! I'm either driving mine too quickly or someone has a caravan hooked up without me knowing. I tend to get c.22 out of my standard WRX.

However I am looking at a PPP; if any one has had one of these retro fitted I'dappreciate some feedback on if it made a noticable difference to performance and mpg (the subaru) stats look good. I've driven a new STi, do you know if it takes the performance to that kind of level, local dealer says a WRX PP is better than a std STi, but he's selling the kit.

Also has anyone a case for separate mods over a PPP kit?

I think there was a thread yesterday about a WRX PPP vs a STi. Check it out. As for seperate mods. Depends if you're interested in keeping your warranty, but seems the best route. The PPP is a generic mod and rarely achieves the claimed figures. My money is going elsewhere. The PPP does not cut it for me.

Mine gives around 22 mpg and that is driving very steady.

When you did this test,
did you forget you were doing it or do you think subconciously you took it extra steady to get the figures up?

My guestimates are roughly the same for my wrx300, on a mix of practical driving with the family and the odd bit of fun!

Ted, if that was aimed at me, then the test was over 2 months so it's unlikely that I was that affected that much....also bear in mind that I only got the car mid-Nov 05 so am still in fun mode . God knows how people get 10mpg out of it... that's just maaaaaaaad

 

Used to get 21/22mpg with each of my 3 Classics ('94/96/98 models).

22mpg from a Bugeye and 23 after the PPP was fitted at 5K.

23mpg from a Blobeye with PPP and 24 from a std 5Dr Blobeye.

19/20mpg from an 05 STi UK PPP. Best of 26 (M1 in traffic) and worst of 16mpg on German Autobahns (no traffic).

I think what shows is that two cars off the production line can differ a great deal in fuel economy and also performance.

Thank God I'm not the only one who get an average of 21-22mpg's from their modified WRX (ecutek remap).

The first few threads in this post are all talking about 27+ mpg's!!!! I haven't got anywhere near that since my remap, 22 at absolute best .

Reading Captain Ted and others puts my mind to rest

 

my fuel economy improved post map, I was getting about 25mpg and about 250miles from a tank. Now I'm getting about 28+ and 300 miles from a tank. Last week got 340 out of tank (but didn't cain it purposely)
