Just bought a Private Registration but its on Retention in owners name. I have filled my name out what next? Do i send it to DVLA and they send it back to the old owner with my name on for him to forward on to me? Is it ever mine so to speak?

Simon, When i sold mine, i had to get the chap who bought's name on the certificate before i could sell it to him, that involved putting his name on it, and then sending it to dvla, with a cheque for £25...... and then i got it back with his name on it.... then i sent it to him so that he could register his car with it.....

It's a bit long winded, but i got there eventually....

Cheers Ron. There is a space for change of address but thats for the owner. So i send it off it gets sent back to the present owner and he sends it back to me then. Is it then mine? Will i still be a Nominee?

you will be the 'nominee' until you put it on a car, you nor anyone else can register it to a car with your/that person's name being on the certificate, so it's the only way really, even if you never intend using it, and if it comes to it and you don't use it, you can always change the name of the nominee........

Simon,

I think once it is sent to me and then I forward it back to you and you then get it assigned to your car then it is yours.

I think thats what DVLA told me when I rang them about this a few months ago and yes it does seem very long winded
