Wink P1 precautions? (for Bob r)

hoping to purchase a p1 very soon but with all the scary stories i have read recently about the p1 (and type r) bottom ends going what precautions would be advised. yeh, dont drive it is a good idea, or even better idea dont let the missus drive it . the car in question is a 2000 reg, full ssh, 27k,and has had oil changed as per instructions. the car has not been tracked or ragged sensless and no mods, its a gem. (its me mates car). is there anything that can be done to preserve the mechanics..... uprated oil pump,? remap ? knocklink? im no techy, and have read mixed views. any veiws appreciated, technical, sarcastic, funny, informative, bring em on just not, do a search! or visit P1 woc.

my personal feeling is that the mapping of the car is the weak link in an otherwise good car. I would get a tek 3 remap on it. if you are considering any mods get them done at the same time.
