ANY ONE COME UP AGAINST AN EARLY EVO OR FIAT COUPE 20V TURBO??
As i have stated a few times i will be purchasing my first scoob in the near future but i have looked at all options in my price range. (the two stated plus gt fours mr2 turbos corrado vr6 and everything else in the under five grand bracket.Just wondered how they compare to scoobys.Cheers.
aint the evo,s dear to look after and service?insurance is a lot dearer than scoob too.I am only 22 three years no claims.been quoted 1000 tpft for uk scoob with my dad as named driver.
I have had a golf vr6 and if the corrado handles anything like then understeer is a big problem due to the heavy 2.9 engine. Corrados do look v nice though and are supposed to be future classics(engines are also bulletproof).
I beat two Fiat coupes(I think they were friends) on a high speed twisty road quite easily,on the straights they were quite good though once they got rolling.
My mate had an MR2 Turbo, that absolutely destroyed two imprort WRX'S (again, think they were friends) 0 - 120 (hit the speed limiter). I will warn you that the MR2 Turbo he had felt very unsafe at high speed when he got it derestricted, not sure if all feel like this?. His engine also blew up shortly after , not sure if that was due to how he drove it.
I've never actually been in a Classic Impreza but would imagine that this is the best all round car, you can get for the money. Closely followed by the Corrado and Mr2 for the fun factor..

Early Evos cost no more to run than a classic scoob
No ayc and service is so very simple.
You will need a STI to have similer performance to a Evo 3
Friend owned a RB5 wr and a bug eye STI PPP and my old 3 out dragged both(running 1bar v the STI)
Edit: although there very reliable, crankwalk is a big problem on Evo's 1-3 so I would perhaps have a search on MLR about this topic.

Hi mate just wanted to tell u that the fiat comes in two there is the 6 speed version leathers heated, top end should see off the std scoob wrx, av been told there about 260 and 220 for the five speed but note sure, classic sti's should be good too but with any of thes cars get them checked as they could have many probs being turbocharged and not looked after properly

The evo did pull over eventually at a roundabout, I looked in and there were 2 young guys in there that looked at me rather disgruntled!! My wrx is not standard, but neither was the evo. Plus I was carrying an extra passenger!!
I don't know exactly what year the evo was, but was on an M plate, my wrx is on a J plate, so maybe my motor has been looked after better??
The evo 3 does look quite nice though!
Rob.
I have had a 93 WRX and an Evo 1. The Evo always felt faster and was quicker round the corners but the Scoob was easier to live with, bigger fuel tank, drank less (but not by much), had less bone shaking suspension and was generally much more pleasant on the motorway.
Which would I have again? Would largely depend on which one I could find at the right price in top condition.

#18 - assuming you can find a WRX that early without a shagged engine or dodgy mods that are actually making it lose power - did you see the top gear 70's supercar feature ? amazing what the actual bhp was compared to the figure when new !
Mate I Know Of A Few As A fact And They Are All Over 260 Bhp.

...seem to remember comparing a 20V Fiat against a 2002WRX not so long ago. The WRX was quicker to 60, but the Fiat was convincingly even quicker to 100, and had better 50-70 in gear times.
You're right though, it probably would fall to bits

Maybe you where just a better driver

There also a small chance its a Lancer 1800 GSR with a E3 kit on, black one near me

M plate would make it a 3.
I have an 20 VT Fiat Coupe as well as my Scoob. Fiat is running about 300 bhp and is a seriously quick machine, have embaresed many a Scoob and Evo in it over the past couple of years.
0-60 any Scoob will beat the Fiat but past 70-80 a slightly modded Coupe will trounce a similar powered Scoob, no 4X4 transmission loses to sap power on the Fiat. Honestly is a great car for the money.

If you're buying a car for under 5k and u can use a ratchet and spanner, i wouldnt bother with servicing it at a garage mate. Do it yourself.
Oil change
Brake Pads/discs
Spark Plugs/leads
Coolant change etc......................are all fairly straight forward and the dealers just going to rip u off for everyone of them.

in my clio sport 0-100 neck and neck with early evo (m reg) after that he went bye bye.
in me (overweight sad lookin) wrx 0-70 laughed at a fiat turbo.(2-3 car lengths) but i am the best driver in the world

I had a Fiat 20v turbo and it was quicker than the Subaru import I bought after it, it would do 155 flat out.
A nightmare to service though, cambelt change can cost up to £800 and is supposed to be an engine out job, general servicing is hard to carry out yourself, a friend of mine worked for fiat and he said get rid of it before it breaks down, or it will cost you a fortune.
they have Brembos as standard, and handle very well for a front wheel drive, they also sound excellent.

Cam belt change by Fiat specialists is £400 - £450 ! In 2 years and now over 70k on the clock mine has never missed a beat.
