Harvey did my first set of headers, looking back it was the best the car has ever run and was certainly the most fun.
while he has your headers, ask if he has any lightened flywheels at the same time, another excellent cost effective mod!

Had mine done up at Harveys just over a week ago. Very happy with service All Harveys headers are wrapped.

With ported headers there is no loss of spool and you will notice improvements across the rev range and improved drivability. This is a good mod for cars with turbos such as TD04, TD05, and the VF22, 23, 28 etc. Ported headers will also benefit hybrid turbo applications but here tubular headers may start to become viable but generally the spool and boost response is 350 rpm further up the rev range which may make the car less drivable although ultimate power from a WELL DESIGNED set of headers will be higher. Take care as there is some rubbish on the market.

Some people use the ported header change to go to an after market up-pipe. Take care because if the up-pipe diameter is too big for the turbo that too will slug spool and boost response.
In early January I will have specially manufactured up-pipes for all turbo Subarus continuing to run on the O/E headers listed above and these will allow for more power with no loss of spool.

The std link pipe visually looks pretty rough inside. Does it hold back a good porting job on the cast iron ends?
Reason I ask is that I got hold of slip jointed link pipe that has a noisy leak until warmed up and sealed.
As I'm only in the region of 330 bhp, I was thinking of digging out the std one and finish porting it off. Will it significantly affect the remap carried out with the slip joint model?

They would be for a sti 4 (vf24). Basically, i'm looking for 'quick-spool' setup. I belive that the vf24 will max out at around 320-330 bhp, but its the torque i'm after. Its only for road use and maybe the odd sprint. I have a H&S de-cat system (3 inch), green panel filter, knock-link and soon, an Apexi FC. Just wanted to get info on anything else worth adding before having the car mapped.

No problems with the info.

Butty : The cross pipe is not particularly a problem area to good flow, certainly not a priority area for attention providing it is not leeking. If the after market pipe leaks under pressure or is a stepped diameter then it is robbing power. The effect on a remap depends on whether it is leaking or not.

Hi Chris: Your VF24 will respond well to ported headers, with or without the O/E ported up-pipe but NOT with a 50mm uppipe. Ensure all the mods are complete before mapping to gain maximum advantage.

Rigga : Thanks for that. Any time that suits but leave plenty time as the headers are time consuming and have to fit round other activities. Payment on shipment by bank transfer is fine by me even if I have them ready for you two weeks in advance.
