As some of you are probably aware I am an avid collector of beautiful cars and to this end purchased 2 x Cashmere Yellow STi 6's some months ago, I have one in " bubble wrap " but used the second one as a regular vehicle, enjoying all the pleasures of owning such a pedigree'd well budgeted car. I took it down to Silverstone, took it out on track and me an my boys thoroughly enjoyed, all the SIDC guys we met were A1, problem is I have been stopped by the police six times....in two months by three different forces, and bearing in mind my age of 36 I dont propose myself as a tearaway ( any more ), all I've been required to do is produce my documents, but six times in two months, my local station can't beleive it themselves....because of it's brightness it also attracts lots of unwelcomed interest, I s'pose you may say well why by such a bright car...but maybe we underestimated the awareness factor...so I proceeded to visit numerous dealers up and down the area trying to P/X it against a different coloured scoob...no-one wanted to know, I was happy to lose lots on it and even tried against a P1 in not brilliant condition, but alas no...in fact the best bid was £18k against a 328 BMW coupe at £34k, I declined. In the end a new car/importer dealer in Leeds happened to have a Range Rover 2.5 DSE 1 yr old at £29k, they offered me £21k in P/X and I took it, the Yellow scoob is now sat in their showroom up at £22995 ( one carefull...ish owner ).till have one in wraps, but my intention now is to watch very carefully at the movement of the new model and in fact a local importer keeps trying to get me to bite on an all singing all dancing model that he's got sight of in Japan....fine I say as long as it's not bloody yellow.......

Mellow,

Its a sad day when issues like these force a loss of a prized motor like yours.

Sorry to hear of this.

I've got a Pug 205 GiT in Volvo T-5 yellow which is fully caged, GpA Exhaust etc. for hillclimbing next season...

Praying I don't get the same treatment.

It is shouting "Stop me" from a huge distance though.

Used to get this all the time when I was younger.
You have five days to produce your details.
Save the producers [after one "good" weekend including a 03:30 call by plod to my parents] I had eight.
Take all your saved tickets to your local police station.
Duty sarge has to fill out a form for each one. After number three he was a tad peeved.
On number six I commented how frustrating it must be to fill out the forms.
Didn't get any producers after that.
This was a long time ago and I thought things have got better. Such a shame.

sorry to hear this -
suspect there is an element of 'envy' involved where the 'producers' are concerned - I have had this too - manchester, M60 based patrol in range rover - stopped me on the hard shoulder near whitefield for absolutely no reason - think someone out there just resents these cars - I was annoyed at the time since the traffic was really heavy and it is quite dangerous to be walking around on the motorway/stationary on that particular stretch - all I had to do was take my docs (deliberately don't carry them in the car) into altrincham station - how pointless - for the record I am 37 and don't (I think!) look like a hoodlum.

I am all for pro-active policing - but if they want to cut crime around north manchester then they need a presence on the streets - not on the motorway - but then that would be hard work wouldn't it?

enough police bashing - really sorry you decided that the sti was not the car for day to day use - keep the other one - it will be a classic and very sought after in future.

cheers,

Paul W

Never been stopped in my yellow 6 (and was never stopped in my gold Micra either). Currently driving a yellow Micra while my 6 has its gearbox rebuilt. The Micra is even shaped like a snooker ball!

Try riding a bike... you spend more time by the side of the road with plod than you do riding the damn thing...

Dave T-S,

My 205, nope no reflection !!!
Its just a GiT to drive. Anyone who'se seen my Scooby will know how much of a pain that is to drive on the road.

The Scooby's a peach to drive in comparison to a Pug that just makes you want to scream out loud "I wanna get out".

Was noise tested at Harewood Hillclimb...105Db at 2/3 revs. It feels louder inside. Imagine being sat inside a drum, and someone revs an engine inside that drum.......

Its not me age, its me Pug. Thats why I'm deaf !!!!

Thanks for all your comments, I constantly travel M62, M60, M61 and M6 and a mixture of unmarked dark blue T5, unmarked dark blue beemer ( M62 nr Liverpool ), R/Rover and panda cars were all involved, if it was purely " interest " factor why the producer ? I have an F40 and have been stopped twice in 5 years of ownership and purely for the polic persons to ask, admire and generally show the interest in such a car as we all do.
Munna, sorry matey, I parted with the scoob 3 weeks ago went away and just recently returned....I'll have something of interest to you all very soon....in closing, had I came across this excellent site prior to purchasing 2 x yellow scoobs, me thinks I wouldn't be posting this thread ?

johnf: I think you can get a cream to sort that out...

I'm around the same area as you, maybe a bit eastish, and have had a DBM for a year and never been stopped. I'm 26 too, and I was expecting the occasional "pull" from the long arm of the law.

I think you may be right about the colour. Shame you sold it.

Hi

I once got pulled 20 plus times in 1 week, 5 were producers not one was for anything apart from being a youngster in a very low Mk3 Escort 1.6L with RS Kit. All were either going to or from work 7am-2ish am.

move to Swindon MY! - I've got a somewhat loud , silly yellow Astra, and has the classic pull-over-laddie full cage as well... not one single stop yet, in six years. Though saying that, ages aho, whilst it was red, and standard, got six pulls in one month - go figure..

I had a Citrus Yellow Mondeo Si for two years and got pulled alot less than I do in my Silver Subaru. I was pulled four times in three days during July.

I have alot of respect for the Police and the service they provide. When I get pulled it is mainly just to check ID.

Scoobies have got to be targets because :

a) the one with the big wing (STi/P1 ?)
b) has it been stolen ?

I'm surprised I haven't been pulled due to the fact mines a typical boy racer looking and sounding car - maybe they know I'm a local, and past that stage... probably, orificer . They do seem to have there priorities right down here though - it's certainly not for lack of presence on the roads, either.

Don't know if yellow was a jinx as my first car was a Mkii Escort in signal yellow ( oi stop lughing I had to start somewhere). I got stop around 40 times in one year !! To top it all I got 3 producers in one day in North London and even the Police in Southgate Police station thought it was funny. Needless to say I got rid of that car as I was spending so much time in the cop shop with bundles of paperwork.

I won't mention being bundled out of the car and being interrogated by 2 cars and a van full of police officers and the damaged caused when they decided to jump on the bonnet for a laugh.

Yellow is not my first choice of car colour now !!

Hi Mellow, please tell us the story about your F40 ? Are you stinking rich or did you get it cheap in an auction ?

Kevin,
Back in the good old times of the mid 80's when money was fruitful and you couldn't do a thing wrong, I swapped a panther callista sports car for what I beleived to be Barry Sheenes No2 Daytona Beach Bike, never raced coz if you remember he had that awful crash, anyway the car stood me at £3k and a straight swap with the dealer, Superbikes of Oldham, a Mr Jimmy Wells, who wasn't convinced of it's authenticity...within 3 days it was proven that it was B.S's bike TZR 750, and bids were flying into me at around £25k....I sold it to a guy down south for £30k cash within one week.....now coz I had a love of cars, I treated myself to a 911 bought from Mann Island Liverpool for £36k soon got bored and sold it some weeks later for £43k, I bought a Triumph Stag for £3k when no-one wanted them and sold it weeks later for £6k, I realised that there was a market for Stags and set about buying 3-4 a week from the south brought them back, advertised in Autotrader and sold them all for double and more....then E-Types...then Porches...then Ferraris....etc..etc...I supplied lots of big...big dealers throughout the UK, my overheads were low so could make lots of money selling to trade....then with surplus amounts of money I bought properties in Manchester, Didsbury...converted them and became student flats....I was 25 by now, it was 1989 times were brill....couldn't step a foot wrong....my collection of cars ranged from a mk1 lotus cortina to Eric Claptons black Countach....so there you have it...a bit of luck and a few gambles...I bought the F40 in 1993 for a ridiculously low price from a man who's business hadn't survived the 90's crash...my only problem these days is boredom. Can you beleive that !

I've got an idea to relieve that boredom MY!!

I'll do you a deal, i will let you take my westfield cosworth for a spin (which has a higher power/weight than an F40) if you let me have a drive of the F40!!

I dont live far from you, call me a cheeky sod but i have always wanted a run in an F40, car of my dreams.

Mellow,

I'm deeply impressed. Some are born into it, some are true entrepreneurs.

Obviously I'm jealous (goes without saying!)

Mmmmm F40. I remember seeing one on the A556 / M56 roundabout earlier this year. My Girlfriend asked what it was....I couldn't answer as my jaw was on the floor

yep, thats me.

Take a look at my profile, my home page has some on board and trackside footage of my car at donnington, giving 911GT's etc a good spanking

That would be great if we could meet up, i am away on a rally with the escort cossie this weekend and at the nurburgring the next but we must sort this out soon, i have to see this F40.

You could always bring it to the ring with us.
