Default HAVE YOU LOST YOUR NUMBER PLATE?

Hi, I'm a freelance journalist writing about insuring personal number plates. Have you or anyone you know lost their number plate when the car was written off or stolen? If so, please contact me as I'm looking for a case study. This is quite a rare situation to find yourself in, but it can happen, so I'd be grateful if you could ask around and get in touch.

Many thanks

yes, i know someone who lost his plate when his car got scrapped, not sure of the circumstances but the MOT had something to do with it i think.

Pardon for asking, but what is it your going to do exactly?

He's going to set up an amazing insurance deal

For only £999 a year you can insure your number plates and claim back the £40 it cost's to get new one's made up.

My insurance know about my personal plate, and also the fact that in the event of a write off the plate belongs to me.

Even if the MOT expires you can still transfer the plate up to six months after it's expired.

mine know about mine, when i bought the car, i changed the cover over to the new scoob, 05 may registered, i made the mistake of calling elephant after 6pm, straight thru to the bombay office or where ever it is.

they would not insure my car as my reg is L*BOT, said it wasnt possible to have an L plate on an 05 car.

LoOL was not the phrase, i was creased, but nothing a call in the morning didnt sort, the wales office by the sounds of it...

slightly off topic, but hey, had to get the interest back lol

cheers

Hi Evolution, can you pass my email address on to the guy who lost his plate when the car was scrapped (if you're still in touch with him), or email me direct with his details?

I'm hoping to write a piece about losing number plates, you lot see clued up but lots of people don't realise when they buy a personal plate that they should tell their insurance company.

For the doubters among you (trap2), here's the last piece I wrote on the subject of number plates - it was in response to Top Gear's James May...

Its obvious isnt it - that when you change number plates you have to change Tax, Mot and insurance.

Identity theft is a problem that relates to any number plate, not just personal plates, surely?

Hi Ruby,

I had a private plate on a car that was stolen & never recovered (K50 EVO)

Never got anything back from the Ins. Co ...& wasnt really that bothered as it came with the Car when i bought it ...& reckoned it was only worth about £250 anyways

But if you need any info, more than willing to help

Hi DazW, you can reapply for your plate after 12 months if the car is not recovered after being stolen, don't know if it's too late for you now, thanks, I'll let you know if I need a quote.

By the way scarey - ST 1 has been sold - in June to an American for no where near £150k!
