I admire and love all things to do with rallying, and I dont think I will be the only one thinking this, but I would not put his name down as sports pers of the year because there are people in the last year who would rightly deserve the title. Unfortunately Richard Burns is not one of them.
I would ,however, love more than anything else (drunk Footballers included) for him to be given the highest respect for services and determination in the world of sport and leave our memories of a great world champion as high as they could possibly be

So just what sporting acheivements did he do during 2005?

It's a shame he is dead, but this is stupid. I am sure he will get some mention, but as sport personality......I don't think so.

agreed but it would be good to see him a nominee..

then "people in the last year who would rightly deserve the title" would still win..

On that basis I sincerely hope a certain dead footballer doesn't get it!

Wrong sentiment this. You should email the BBc sugesting a fitting tribute on the program would be right but to try and vote for thim to get this award is just silly IMHO.

A dead footballer wont get the award either, but he may get more "airtime".

I agree with Wide. It's a terrible shame that RB has passed away, I've always been a great admirer.

However, due to illness, etc, he wasnt able to compete in 2005. Therefore he surely cant be awarded for Sports personality of the year award?

I would have thought a 10minute tribute would be much more fitting.

Im not going to be watching the programme though - Im pretty sure George Best will be getting a ridiuclous amount of airtime, which IMO is pathetic. A former footballer drinks himself to death, wasting a perfectly good liver in the process, and every calls it a tragedy. Bollox.

Here here! We seem to have become a country that glorifies and celebrates wasters!

But this has been done to death!

Andy Flintoff will probably get it because of the Ashes.

Gazza will probably get it, 1 George best replica, manager for 39 days, drunk for 342, 1 Careful owner, original liver, well looked after. Sounds like many a car advert round here in fact.
