Afternoon,

Dealer has diagnosed coilpack as the cause of poor cold starting on my '95 WRX - need all 4 at 56+vat each, total job 400+.

Should I just bite the bullet or are there cheaper options out there?

buy the coil packs and fit them yourself, should be about 1.5 hours, save yourself £150!

I've got some decent secondhand ones - PM me if you're interested.

 

You could use the Oz bosch ones.They mount away from the spark plugs and you need some leads, it requires a bit of work but worth it in the end.

I really don't think so, they don't provide a better ignition strength compared to new Subaru coilpacks, and just take up space in an already busy engine bay. I ditched Bosch coilpacks (fitted by previous owner) for the original subaru ones.

 

Dooh don't say that I spent hours sorting mine out.

Busy engine bay? half the stuff in the orginal car is junk for emissions regs, plus A/C ?? PAS.

 

Can you convert to phase 1.5 with the central coil pack. I presume it must just pick the trigger from the crank?

But then it's got to be more complicated than that because of ignition retard/advance.
