Default p1 vs sti8

which would you choose p1 or a sti8 ?
p1's are great but the age factor cuts etc.

Default STI 8 with a few mods....

Until 2 weeks ago I would have said a P1 as I felt it was just so direct - a true raw scooby experience, my trips round the 'ring are still, to this day, unforgettable. So until now my scooby experience said P1 above all, but after a trip to PowerStation I have to say my opinion has changed...

A STI 8 with T25 suspension and some light engine mods, never mind the upgraded interior, safety etc is just so much the better car....

We all have our own opinions!! This is just a view so I am sure others let you know!!

P1 is iconic ... the best subaru IMHO. Who cares which one is faster ... at the end of the day if you are racing one in a 350bhp Sti8 you won't be able to lose it ... period!!! Maybe a few extra car lengths on a straight but if you put a P1 and and STi8 in front of people that know nothing about subarus and ask them to choose one they will be choosing the P1.

I drive a 'glorified' STi8 so no-one can say I am being bias!

The 22B is the most iconic classic, the best.... definately not the P1, your probably looking at a type RA as being the best, the 22B is flawed but people love it because it is flawed, the P1 never really made the expectations people wanted from it..... sad but true.
As for the MY03/04/05 STi's as there is no such thing as an STi 8, tuned, they are better than classics, they can take more out of the box, especially when it comes to torque, which is what you want over bhp plus ok, they are a little less raw, but people dont want an everyday car thats too raw, it gets tiring

P1=good but not the best
STI Type Uk=better, smoother and easier to live with

i have to agree tony
i had a p1 ordered during development
cancelled due to spec changes in order to suit eu regs
p1 wr pack was the car we were promised at the 31k asking price
not the 35k it turned out to be
my sti 8 runs 360bhp and all for under 30k, very happy
still love the look of the p1 though
would swap it for a 22b type uk though

I have driven both, and whilst I still really enjoyed the MY05 STI, getting back in the P1 was sooo much better, it was just a little bit more raw than the STI. I think it would be worth while trying a spec c or certainly a JDM scoob as I fell the UK cars aren't so good. Might be worth trying a WR1 as Evo magazine recon it was just as good as the P1.

At the end of the day, it's best to go and drive both of them. Each of them have there advantages and disadvantages.

have to say i agree with gangsta-p1 is iconic unfortunately try to find a good one with any warranty left as the engine can be sensitive if standard or incorrectly tuned.most p1's are over 3 years old and over 60,000 miles and therefore out of subaru warranty-needed for front splitter/spoiler resprays so most will be needing new clutch etc great cars but imho can get newer faster car, still miss mine though but impractical for kids

I have a V5 Type'R' and was told that they were raw, difficult to drive, could give you a nasty bite etc, etc, etc......

What a load of bo**ox, what a pleasure to drive, whether hard or plodding along.. As for performance, better than any new age Impreza. If you want a faster car, buy one eh...

In laymans terms it's a limited edition bugeye.

I'm sure someone will post the figures up, although with it being a JDM the BHP will be quoted as 276, with the reality being higher...

The s202 is i believe a spec c ra. Subaru did a limited edition run of around 400. They are ~320bhp with similar torque i'd imagine

Thanks for that gents.

Seen one in the "flesh", so to speak, as one of the guys on SIDC has one, which I saw at a meet. Didn`t get the chance to talk to him at the time, but it`s obviously one quick motor.

Heart says P1, head says STi8, though I don't like the SCOOPS on more modern Imprezas, so I'd probably get something else entirely.

P1s are getting on a little. Prices can be good but there's a Q over the longevity of engines. Also, 5 speed box isn't the strongest. The 6 speeder may have gear ratio issues for some activities but it's a sh*t load stronger.

If they cost the same money, STi8 is the sensible (ish) choice. Weren't owt but bugeyes around when I bought my P1 though.

J (P1 owner).

Personally I'd have a P1. I had one for 4 odd years (45,000 miles) and nothing went wrong apart from a new battery required. In fact nothing much has gone wrong with all 4 classics I had, a period of 8 years.

Good P1s are out there to be had, you just have to look. I've not driven nor owned an sti8 (no new shape whatsoever appeals to me), but I'd say you'll probably lose more depreciation wise on it than a P1.

If I was to get another Impreza, I'd probably get another typeR or an RA, something in the region of 6k to 9k. It really is an unbeatable type of car for the money.

I agree that the ukspec 22b is the most iconic Impreza, I loved mine
