Hi guys ive just bought a 52 plate bug eye WRX and its only done 14k. Ive been to the dealer and they say £350+ VAT which is over £400. I nearly fell over. So i then contacted scooby clinic thinking they would be alot cheaper than the dealer, there quote £465! ! ! Whats all that about? Why are they dearer than the dealer? & is there any other specialists around doncaster/sheffild/leeds cheaper. I no they are a dear car to run but this is stupid money. My civic type R cost £150 what could possibly * the price by 3.

 

my services ( STi UK ) were

1000 £38
10000 £161
20000 £195
30000 £425

 

If going by milage you will be due the next service in the service book which will be the 20K one and will be about £200. However, I think that you are being quoted a service based on the age of your scoob which will be the three year one equivalent to a 30K service which is quite pricey as listed above.

Go back to the dealer and ask them to clarify which service they have quoted you for and what you get for the money.

 

As above, you are being quoted for the 30k or 3 year service which is what is due, £400-£450 is about the going rate for that, been quite a few threads on the 30k service with comparative prices at various dealers.

 

I am going for the next one along in the book, which is the 36 monthly one. Its low milage but this is the one they say im due. They did say its the dearist sevice, the same as the cam belt change service. Surely there are some cheaper alternatives?

 

why do you think the lad before you sold it-it was prob due its big service and he got rid of it and unfortunately you are now due an expensive service,ring around a few dealers stan palmers in carlisle should be cheap and you could make a day of it in carlisle with courtesy car etc,also get sidc 10% discount,i supply my own oil and my 30,000 sevive sti 03 only cost £316

I have just had an oil change at System R in Warrington on my 02STi. Cost £60 using Subaru filter and millers oil. Cost me £120 for the same service at Subaru. I cannot justify Subaru prices.
I have also just spent £600 having various parts resprayed, two major bits that were damaged at main dealers although I failed to notice this on collection so couldn't prove it was them.

My advice, find a local garage you can trust and use them. save some wasted money.

I new it was due but £400+ wow. Ive been told by a freind who is a mechanic who owns an impreza turbo to buy the subaru parts and let him fit them for half the cost. The only problem then is no subaru stamp just an ordinary garage stamp. Idvice - yes or no?

To be honest I'd bite the bullet and get it done at Subaru or a reputable specialist, otherwise you may put off future buyers or affect your trade-in value at a later date.

I had the same problem, I bought mine at 4 years old with 24k miles. I had the 30k service done 9 months late but 3k miles ahead of shedule. When I put in for my goodwill payment from Subaru when my gearbox fooked up, they cited my dodgy service history for one of the reasons they wouldn't go 50/50 with me.

The 30k service consists of the following:
4x NGK spark plugs
1x sump washer
5x synthetic blend oil
1x environmetal disposal (oil)
1x oil filter
1x fuel filter
1x gasket
1x air filter element 480
4.1x gear oil 500ml
1.5x LSD oil
2x 1L antifreeze
1x consumables
2.9x labour @ £67.50/h

 

nowt wrong with that - as long as OEM parts are used, you're laughing

go for it if you know that he is compotent to do it ... a good spanner as a good spanner.. car is out of warrenty... so you will never get anything from them regardless of miles .. as long as prop vat garage will still be fsh... and i doubt it will make much more if any when you sell it...and as for trade i was offered 2k less than book with low miles and fdsh .. each buyer is different anyway.. my scoob now has a full dealer history and my local dealer{scoob} is not really interested as soon as i mentioned that it was not with them and i bought private .. most unhelpfull...

 

Your call really, depends what you are going to save, bear in mind the loss of FSSH will deffo put some buyers off given how much the buying guides and TV shows hark on about full dealer service history being crucial..

TBH when I phoned around for the 30k there was just not enough of a saving with specialists to make it worth while (IMO ), & do be sure they are quoting absolute like for like, some of the specialists have a different view as to what the service should include..

Just had a 6 year service on my classic - got it for just over £530 from a local specialist in Stockport and that was with a 10% discount on an already cheap price! Good fun these Subarus eh!!!

 

Gotta be your judgement on that one mate and also who you feel best about doing the work on the car..

We charge £170.00 + VAT for a 20,000m service. I think that you must have been quoted for a 36 month (30,000) service which would cost £358.00 + VAT with us.

We would like to see a break down of the work carried out by a dealer and wether it mirrors our 30k/36month service.

Our services are based on £25 per hour and we cannot see how a dealer charging in many cases more than £50 per hour can beat us.

Are certian things not being done/deleted from the schedule?

what oils are they using?


Just to clarify the situation We do the following

for £382.20+vat


Air filter ( we use a K&N panel filter)
Engine coolant change.
Transmission oil change (fully synthetic)
Diff. oil change (fully synthetic)
Engine oil & filter (fully synthetic silkolene pro. S race oil)
Spark plugs
Fuel filter.
Full check over & report


We would like to point out, ours is a performance service (not saying anybody else's is not!) including a K&N filter and fully synthetic oils throughout, maybe an option we could create a standard service using a standard paper air filter and semi synthetic oils,this would come in quite a bit cheaper but we find most of our customers want the best for thier cars.

will be booking it in for its 30K service after pay day

(Gutted I need to spend about £600 to sell my car but thats the way it goes, 2 tyres, 30K service and a detail)

the car is a 05 sti by the way and the dealer was S&S Services in Ayr

Subaru go on the year to year schedule not the mileage so whilst 50/50 might not seem a good thing initially believe me it was, by all intents and purpose they could have said your on your own to stump up the full cost. And yes I speak from experience

to the o.p of the thread. i personally use the above (scoobybits), and can vouch jase/new mechaic of his both know what theyre doing, use proper parts, and are genuinly very thorough. jase isnt the cheapest, and isnt the most expensive either. honest enough and if theres something wrong offers second to none advice.

easy to find too. just off junc. 34 m1 i believe as i have to commute 40 odd miles from scunny.

 

I paid £650 for my 50k service and that was with SIDC discount at the main dealer on my 32k 02 WRX

 

Pretty much what I paid on my old 02WRX... Just bought an 02STI with 49k on the clock from the dealers and it has just had the 50k service...

 

Just get it done by your mate. Lets face it in a few years time the car will prob have dropped 5k in value anyway. Full dealer history means **** all to me. I know people who work at dealers and im my opinion full dealer history means its more likely not been serviced properly.

 

I just had the 90,000 serivce done on my 05 STi and over here in the US and it cost me $411, I did have a CEL they needed to sort for me that costed a little more.

But owning an STi isn't cheap. You could source all the stuff needed and do it yourself.

 

If it were me I would go for the 20k Mile service with all the fluids done.
Unless its modified I doubt the plugs need changing and the panel filter is easy to check. Thats £100+ saved right there !
