Just bought a Prodrive back box off ebay and found it does not connect to the centre pipe. The bolt holes are rotated out of alignment by about 15 degrees, so do not line up, see photo

I have a UK MY99 classic with a Janspeed centre which fits to the original box and to a new age STi box I have been running.

The Prodrive box is supposed to be for a Classic, certainly the hangers line up nicely.

What is going on? Do Prodrive boxes only fit to Prodrive centre pipes, or do I have something else?

The Prodrive box is interchangable with any of the OE parts and aftermarket ones, even if it is for a new age it will fit as its just one of the hangers which is different.. but you will know that as you have a new age STi box..

Take it the box has Prodrive on the top of the tail pipe and a stamp on the underside?

That said, I've never heard of any (standard bore) aftermarket exhaust that does not mate with the OE parts.

I have bought for friends more than 20 PPP's and the fitting is if not better at least the same with OEM exhaust parts.
Are you sure it is Prodrive BBox and not "Prodrive labeled" BBox?

Attached are pictures of the box, certainly appears to be genuine Prodrive.

I wonder if it was made (or modified) to fit a Sport (non-turbo) as when I got it it had the remains of a 2 inch middle pipe attached (feeding into the 2 3/8 inch pipe to the box)? The weld onto the flange is verey good and matches other welds.

 

I think that it could well be for a Sport. I bought a used Prodrive box from Stan Palmer's and had exactly the same problem. I took it back and they said that it must be for a Sport, although they didn't seem too sure!! I suppose that the Sport boxes are much thinner on the ground so aren't readily recognisable.

 

Thanks Raymond, I think I will cut the flange off and re-weld it in the 'turbo' position.

yep if you try and fit the sti box to a non turbo the flanges are indeed rotated slightly i have in the past got round it by welding the holes up and redrilling them.
