hi, i've been offered a clutch kit for an impreza sti 8,
the kit comprises a release bearing, genuine sti cover plate & an AP rigid 6 paddle centre plate, what kind of money should i offer for it?? and also what would the drive be like with the paddle plate?

The drive will be awful with a paddle, get an organic plate, much better and will take most abuse

 

i've been told by a few people it would be juddery on pull away with the paddle, but wasn;t sure if it was worth buying for the right money.

 

More than just a judder, more like an on off switch but if thats what you want then go for it

 

If the car is your daily driver and stock or mild mods then fit an AP organic.
You will not notice any difference in how it drives but it will not fail.
Paddle will be quite harsh, but the greater the number of pads generally the smoother (a relative term here) it will be.
A 3 paddle is horrendous generally in 'Bank Holiday Traffic' (been there in my 911)
Finally, if the friction plate does not have a sprung centre DO NOT fit it at all!
It WILL shatter your gearbox in time!

Uprated Exedy Organic is an excellent option and cheaper than the AP too.

I fitted an organic AP clutch and cover to my GT6. Not to harsh but really puts the power through.

 

But ultimately not as robust as the AP.

I always thought that the Exedey = AP organic?
Anyway, I've given mine death for 2 years and it is still great, no smells, no slip and so smooth.
