As above really. I reckon about 15k for a private or about 17/ 18k from a garage. This assumes say 25k miles.
Am I correct? I sold my classic on Friday night and am needing to get another Scooby ASAP!!!!

 

I reckon privately you may even pick one up cheaper than that if you shop around!

Yeah, saw one in the Autotrader for £14,250 - I reckon he woule probably take 14k. I would prefer the peace of mind of a garage though - does 17/18k sound reasonable?

an 03 plate may not have that nuch warranty with it, if its bought from a dealer, they will offer a subaru proven waranty wont they???

Not always, you would probs have to pay extra for it on top of the purchase price

with the way of the market at the moment, i would put my life on it you would be able to negociate a warrany imto the deal. if you cant walk away, you will find one that will.

i always thought these were bullet proof, but as i found out on saturday night, my 6 month old scoobs engine let go.

So to me the warranty was invalueble. you need to work out what it is you want to buy before you go out, no clear idea, you can easily end up buying something your not 100/5 happy with.

I would say take it to a specialist if you do buy privately, possibly a good dealer, after all, if they help you out, they may see you will come back for servicing, who knows

I sold my MY04 when it was 6 months old for 19k, with 10k on it

 

17k is too much youend up selling that in a years time for 10k.

Personally I'd still avoid the dealer and buy either straight private or through an indipendent dealer (Or Importer).. Even with an indipendent You'll get a years warranty and as long as you read the small print and ensure you don't get stiffed for a £500 claim limit you'll still have certain piece of mind.

If you choke for 17k through a dealer you'll get shafted silly when you go to change next time and the whole experience will leave a bad taste in your mouth.

Reading the For Sale forums on here over the last few months there is some real cracking bargains to be had as a cash buyer. So many people (Myself included) have been stiffed by dealers that I personally would Buy Privately if I wanted another Scoob.

Sadly the Scoob is not the Rock Solid Re-sale Beast that it used to be and personally I don't think it will ever recover . There's just to many about and to many reasons not to buy now. Only in my opinion of course having owned 2.

when i was lookin back in august the cheaper ones (sub 15k) were cheaper for a reason!

i still think your best bet is to spend a little more 16 - 17k on a nice clean example...

 

so 16 - 17 k from a dealer is reasonable then provided it is clean/ low mileage etc.

i really want one and am prepared to pay a little more if it is from a garage - peace of mind and all that

 

And paid well over the book price, it was a private sale and i am very happy with the car an 03 stiuk ppp with 18" wheels ,quick****,and subaru mudflaps, it has only done 6000 miles and had never been out in the wet, it was really in a better than new condition, i got it off a workmate and knew the car and it's history/treatment from new,to me it was worth the extra i paid...

I think people are just basically saying that in 6months when the running costs start hurting, and you decide to change for something cheaper to run and only get offered 10k by the dealer you bought it from, then dont come on here and say you werent warned!!!

Great cars, but they dont half plummet in value!

 

Personally i'd say **** the dealer, pay much less for a private sale. As already stated you won't get a warranty but for the money you save, if it goes wrong you can afford to fix it if it doesn't you're in pocket.

Ok, so you have pretty much been given the arguments for and against getting it from a dealer, so its up toy you to make the wise desicion. Its not easy so good luck mate.

6,000 miles is not run in,hope he has had all of his yearly servicing done!i would have bought a car of that age with more miles on as all the niggles would have been sorted by then

Friday just gone i got my '03 STi (PPP) with 25k on the clock with 2 previous owners, full history - i got the SureGuard paint protection, GAP insurance, 12 months warranty from when the Subaru one runs out in July next year and the Trackstar life time subscription (£325) and i paid £14,600. From my Renault garage (traded in my 172 Clio) - i think i was a bit lucky etc... but deals are out there and its definately a buyers market especially if you have nothing else to trade ... so haggle hard and get yourself a bargain.

interesting reading. I will haggle as much as I can but I reckon the dealer will not move from 17k. Maybee try 16.5k and see what they say.

 

the Clio was also '03 with 24k on the clock it wasn't the cup so had a/c and ABS - got £7200 trade in value
