Probably the best road in the world?? Very very wet!!

It was named Dead Sheep Mountain by my niece, cos she likes to count the dead sheep at the roadside!!

Ah!, got it now! Is it the A4059 from Penderyn up to the A470 @ Beacons Reservoir?

 

Crackin road, shame it was soooo wet. How on earth did you get the camcorder to stay in place?

 

Yep, good spot on the road, it was a bit nervous in the wet (but then it was very wet!!) indeed but also easy to get pointing straight again!!

The Camera is a very light Sony Handycam (light weight helps the stability of the tripod) mounted on a standard fully adjustable tripod - legs pushed into the rear door footwells tight against the bodywork, with the third leg on the rear seat. Then tie the tripod securly to the central storage bin to prevent any vertical movement! Works well even when it gets bumpy!! Better than the windscreen sucker mount things which just fall off!! The sports mode on the camera helps minimise 'shake', at DVD quality its almost perfect, the web causes some loss of quality.

Even better roads on video soon I hope, with better weather!!!

Can't see the problem with that - making good use of the road available.

There seems to be good view of the road ahead, and a good idea to avoid puddles etc at the sides of the road. Most of the road had broken white lines. One of the best things about moutain roads is being able to see far enough ahead that you make your own line across the whole width of the road

Would you have stuck to the left and hit all the potholes / patches of standing water??

Agree that the A4069 is also a classic (if slightly shorter).

Can someone please tell me whereabouts in the country you need to go for roads like that!! :-) Not a Gatso in sight!!

Some cracking roads in Wales

Any idea on the prices for the MAC course?

 

About £299 for a full day I think (that was about a year ago so maybe more now), though you can split that for 2 people if you want - which we did. Without doubt the best on road driving day we have ever had, Ross the instructor was an ex-police driving instructor. His attitude was that the day was all about fun and learning. He taught us how to make quick and safe progress along any road though especially A/B roads - we skipped the part on how to drive for fuel economy!!

Basically you drive for a while for them to assess your driving, the instructor drives your car giving teaching points (and I mean drives, smoothly and progressively and demonstrates how good progress is made, limit points, cornering techniques, dealing with difficult situations, junctions etc, when its safe to use the other side of the road (uh hmm...). Then you drive again this time giving commentary as you go!

The Mrs loved the day as much as me, its about good quick driving. My driving improved no end and the Mrs tells everyone she went from being a bit of a nervous driver and passenger to a confident and capable wheelswoman! The learning is due to the sensible, encouraging attitude of the instructor. Can't recommend it highly enough.

 

Sounds pretty good I went on something similar, but not as advanced, a few years ago with the Worcester mob.

I will see if I can raise some interest for a 'group buy'
