05 STi constantly misting up
Now I wouldn't mind if this only happened during the throngs of moments of unbridled passion
but at the slighest hint of rain, all the windows mist up
I've tried all the heater settings,I've not got it set to 're-circulate' and there is no sign of dampness in the car anywhere
I have to turn on the air-con to clear it
Has anyone got any suggestions as to whats wrong please?
Cheers,Jon

When was the last time you cleaned the inside windows? If they have been cleaned and it still mists up then perhaps you have a slight leak around the boot seal or rear light cluster.
Food for thought.

Best way to demist is with aircon anyway, as system extracts moisture as well. I run aircon all year round not just for cooling in summer. I would guess the misting up is normal in certain conditions if you are only using the heater without the air con switched on.

When you run the air-con, do you get the pool of water under the car?
I had a problem (vauxhall) where the drain was partially blocked, causing the condensate to back-up and overflow into the footwell. Because the carpets are not naturally absorbent, you could have water sitting beneath them and the carpets are still dry to the touch. Pull back the carpet and have a feel beneath for moisture, this would definitely cause misting.

I find the same with my 04 WRX.
The heater clears the screen effectively but as the car reaches the temp indicated on the dial, then the heat from the blowers reduces meaning misting again.
I am going to go to Halfrauds to get some isopropyl alcohol to wipe on the inside of the windows, this will help.

Thanks for the replies gents
Well I've been right thro the car today and can't find anything amiss at all,I even had the carpets up!!
but as t2t said, its a proper pita.Even if I use the air con to clear it 5 minutes after I get out of the car every window has condensation all over it again
Guess its one for the dealer to have a look at

Did you ever get dealer to check this. I have same probs with WRX 04 wagon.
Spends much of day in station car park - and always gallons condensation on all windows - whereas other cars are clear.
I do use aircon and not set on re-circ

In my experience, any water leaks will end up making one or more carpets wet, be it heater matrix, door seals, front window, back window etc...so I'd say it just a quirk of a scooby.
I do leave with heater settings set to cold and all vents open when car stopped. Only ever get back window mist up on cold-ish nights - like last night.
Check your environmental air control pipework (is that what they call it these days?)...like said, might be something stuck shut not allowing fresh air in when car not moving.

As rob says water leaking into the boot. Have a look under the spare wheel mine can be like a swimming pool at times. My responce was to drill two small holes in the wheel well to allow the water to drain.

would it not have been better to fix the leak? instead of letting the water use your car as a posh waterfall ?
FWIW water in the boot usually means the rear screen mists up first, not the windscreen
