Scammers on Scoobynet?
Before my Subaru I was on another board and there was quite a lot of dodgy deals that spoiled it for everybody.
I have just come across this;

Is there much of this goes on here?

I've bought a backbox and decat centre from a guy on here and it was the most straightforward online transaction I've had.
I've also bought a set of wheels from the for sale section and they were mint as described and an absolute bargain.
You just have to take the normal precautions when trading online. Exchange phone numbers and addresses before money. Pay by cheque if possible to ensure the recipient can be traced my their bank details. Talk to them in person or over the phone rather than just online.
I would think that there are more sharks on eBay that you'll find here.

I've bought and sold a few things on here and never had any problems.
I do believe that the vast majority of Scoobynetters are honest. Some have questionable taste, especially when it comes to rear lights
, but most SN transactions go smoothly.

Bought my car from a member on here - no problems at all.
I think it just pays to be sensible - if it looks too good to be true, then it probably is - if the seller has only recently registered and has few posts, then beware.
A lot of the posters on here know other posters in person or have dealt with them, so its always worth putting up a message saying 'do you know member 123XYZ so you can get some feedback from other posters ( lets face it, no genuine person who hasnt got something to hide is going to mind if its for a valid reason ).

99.9% of people buy/sell on ScoobyNet with no problems (which is really positive and a credit to the community), but alas you always get the odd one.
ScoobyNet's advise is to be diligant, sensible and above all BEWARE.
Regards,
Shaun.
P.S. I even bought a UK STi from this site and even though the guy selling knew who I was (co-owner of ScoobyNet) he still insisted I had clear funds first in his account before taking the car....... totally sensible in my eyes. But just goes to show, you must take all reasonable precautions yourself..... regardless.

Generally Scoobynet is fine. Just follow the advice and take care. Sometimes you come across poor deliveries and apauling communication but actual scammers as referred to above or Officially Pimped/OPP Warington are few and far between. The community is usually a close knit place so most people are known, certainly if they start scamming.

ebay on the other hand..
