Question No model of car can be 'CHAV'

I've been thinking about these accusations that the Impreza has become a 'chav' car. One model of car can only be classed as chav if a majority are owned by chavs. The price of a new WRX is around £20k, that's out of reach of your average chav even after a discount. Three to five year old second hand WRXs should cost at least £9k unless they are near write-offs. That's too expensive for chavs as well. So we are talking about some early scoobies that probably need some work done. This is hardly a majority.

Calling every Impreza on the road chav because some chavs can now afford to buy them is like saying a baby born to a council estate family is automatically chav. Like some cars, they become chav as they get older.

Do you agree?

But have you seen what gets done to the newer more expensive Subarus?...the owner may not come from a chav culture...but some certainly employ what is seen as chav tastes.

The problem is the word "chav" has now become a widespread branding to what was once used to depict scum, and is now used to describe someones tastes in style amongst other things. The slang word has lost its meaning. Which is why I prefer to resort to more specific words.

So it's about over generalisation, for cars and people. IMHO

Most scoobs out there are worth less than £9k, many of them in great condition (many of them not too).

Most of the people who call older WRX owners chav's are the people who own new Impreza's.

You might laugh at us early WRX owners, but we'll laugh at you when you realise how much money you have lost after owning the car for a year!!!

I might only have an old car, but at least it is MINE, and it doesn't belong to a finance company!!!!

chav = burberry wearing...cheap larger drinking...nike shox wearing little scum bag..

also...would not be able to insure a scooby untill 25 (90% of insurance company's)

also..chav = council estate...no job...rings by eliabeth juke @ argos...lol

i would honestly say......a scooby aint a chav car...

Why would a doctor need a big STi spoiler on a WRX?

CarsWhat every Chav wants as soon as they pass their driving test is a high performance sports car to impress their chav mates and impress the knickers off of chavettes! However all they can afford in reality is a 15 year old Vauxhall Nova or Ford Orion that is one MOT away from the scrap yard! The fact that the vehicle has one foot in its metaphorical mechanical grave will not stop them from modifying it to try and look like a high performance car. I use the term modifying loosely here, what they actually do is 'gyp-up' or 'barry-up' their motors. The first 'mod' a chav will make to their rust bucket is to acquire a set of alloy wheels.

You misunderstood. I didn't mean ALL scoobies under £9k need work done, just that chavs can only afford the worst examples that cost less than, say, £3k. I know this is still a generalisation but I don't have access to any stats, it's just opinion.

Does this refer to me?

If so, you need to read my first post a little more carefully. I was theorising as to what kind of Impreza a chav could afford and how many of that kind are still about. I didn't mean 'Older WRX owner = chav'. In fact that was part of my point, ie, don't judge a car by a minority of owners.

I assume you are a car enthusiast so you buy the best car you can afford like me.

BTW, I have a 4 year old WRX and it's mine, ALL MINE I tell ya!!!

WTF

When i was a kid i got picked on for being a paki.
often other kids woud sing chocolate lolypop with a cherry on the top, pop pop.
i got picked on for being brown skined and wearing a turban.
and now today i get the same jokes for being a chav???
I think its well out of order.
when i was younger nike trainers were the dogs bolloks, and i still wear a silver chain.
talking in a realy bad west indian accent was considered cool. BASICALY BEING A CHAV USED TO BE COOL. Jungle was our music of choice all of my friends had sterios worth more than their cars, in the mid ninties insurance was realy expensive, especaly if you lived in chavy essex/east london.
when we came to england we lived in ilford, its a f'ing dump. but we did alright and now we live in henley. all this chav talk pisses me of i get it from my own family my younger siblings look down there nose at council estate kids, instead if being greatful. and now today they sing songs at chavs in the playground. just goes to show how things turn in circles.
