Differences include red brake calipers, inverted struts, aluminium suspension parts.

S2000? Well, the wrx has four seats, a turbo engine, 4wd, isn't convertible...

Totally; saves painting the calipers yourself...

(I have an 05, but have never driven an 04 so can't provide sensible answer I'm afraid!)

I think the MY05 engine is slightly quieter (until the PPP is added).

The gearbox has been treaked also, slightly slicker operation.l

Seen references to the wheels being different pcd and/or offset so you cant swap between the older models and MY05.

the hole PCD is different on the WRX STI Type UK only (not sure about JDM spec, that being 114. (something)

the PCD on every other car in the impreza range is 100mm.

As for the difference in the cabin, there are a few dash differences. mainly looking at the center consol, have a look at the pics

I recently bought a MY05 WRX after trying a MY04 ......

I can't say I noticed the engine was any quieter or the gearbox smoother on the MY05. The dash was, however, improved with a different steering wheel, no dash cup holders and different air con controls. It just looked a little more up market but nothing too great. I bought it because the colour was what I preferred and the general condition of the car was better - not because of the 'improvements'.

My opinion FWIW.

Inverted Struts, taken from the '04 STi
Stiffer chassis (much)
Interior more like a Lexus now... much classier looking
Much more solid feel (the doors clunk like a BMW)
Red Brake Calipers
Climate control as opposed to just air con

Don't think there is any difference power plant wise but I heard the gearbox had been strengthened/tweaked

Is it miraculously more economical? My 97' Classic could only really manage an average of about 25mpg (it was chipped though and I drove it how it was meant to be driven ). Back then I had a fuel card so never worried about the cost of petrol. Now I don't have a card it's the main reason that puts me off getting another one.

which is, if the 04 is even worse than 05, you need a GPM gauge, not an MPG, mine is quite bad and thats putting it very mildly to say the least. It is getting better the more miles i do, its around the 22mpg mark as of the moment...
