you dont have to have usb 2 . I have an older computer than yours with usb 1 and itunes and ipod 60gb works fine
check the usb cable - does the laptop make a noise when you click it in and does i tunes open automatically? go to www.itunes.co.uk to check for updates.
i had issues when i 1st used mine - when the icon does appear you can just drag and drop files into it! good luck

Plug the ipod into the p.c, click on start - control panel - printers and other hardware - system (in l/h column) - hardware - device manager. Once here, scroll down to 'universal serial bus controllers'. Open that and and click and unclick on all the bus ports available, but remember the original configuration (write it down
). See if that wakes the ipod up. The right usb port may not be enabled at the moment.
This is assuming that the ipod software is correctly installed?
