Thanks to previous sound advice on here I am now at another decision point, so again grateful for the advice of those of you with experience.

I drove the new Spec C and was totally blown away (and am really close to buying one!) but I just want a final check:

New Spec C with Type 20 engine mods & T25 suspension at Litchfield/Powerstation

or

Modify my 04 UK STI 8 to the same standard at Powerstation (Evo magazine, their location, meeting them and comments on here have made them my choice of Subaru Specialist). a lot cheaper but just how good will it be after the Spec C experience?

I am after the total scoob experience, and that is more important than the price here but if the UK with mods vs 'C' is just shades of gray that would need Petter style driving to tell the difference then there won't be much point. I love scoobs but am more Maureen (from Driving School!) than McRae in driving terms. (I am an experienced average driver before you say why either I just like the alliteration in the metaphor - chuckle chuckle this may fly over a few heads given the usual standard of posts on here)

From a guy with EXACTLY this experience (have a read of my article - introduction - in the ScoobyNet Article Section), I would suggest going for the Spec C (especially if you have driven one and found it right for you).

If you also keep you eyes on the same article forum, you will also find out exactly what can be done to these Spec C's and how.

They ARE NOT shades of grey regarding both performance and handling (more like chalk and cheese)..... if that is what you want (and you have considering all the to's and fro's of going either the UK or JDM route).

I am so gagging to tell you what the performance differences are (even between a modded UK Sti and Spec C, regarding spool up, mid range etc etc), and I may post a graph up later..... but I dont want to spoil the article.

SPEC C..... you know you want one!

Isn't it basically a question of

"Do you want DCCD and a twin scroll turbo" if yes "Can I justify the financial hit I'll have to take to do it"

I say if you can afford it, then enjoy the car change

A Spec C has a slightly different spec engine (too many "spec"'s ) and turbo. Results should be fairly comparative.

Depends on the MY. An MY05 JDM STi has the same geometry and steering rack as a spec C and a number of people have added spec C bits such as an oil cooler and the anti-surge fuel pump to the STi. AT this point the main difference between them is the weight: the STI is 100kgs heavier. It's also missing the 12l intercooler water spray.

Also, my spec C came with an underbody aero pack but I have no idea whether the 05 STi did or not.

Pre MY05, the STi has a much 'slower' steering rack and suffered much worse understeer.
