Angry Robbed blind by Mitsubishi garage!

Took the wifes mitsu spacestar 1.6l in for the usual yearly service...

30 000 kms (20 000 miles) on the clock.

Look in the service book and all that is required is a oil and filter change and just a basic look over the car...

they do...
1.oil and filter
2. bleed all brakes even though this was done 5 months (2000 kms) ago by the same garage!
3. Cleaned fuel injectors. Why?
4. fitted a new pollen filter.... again why?
5. Replaced a front headlight bulb. even though I had taken the time to check every bulb that morning.

and all for the princley sum of £300!!!! Should of been more like £80!

My Scoob was cheaper to service!

With service like that I'll never buy another Mitsu!

More to the point, why did you pay???

After all, garages are not allowed to do work without your authority

If you a) didn't ask for the work to be done, b) the garage did not tell you they were going to do it, and c) it's not in the service schedule then you are NOT obliged to pay for the labour involved, though by law you have to pay for the parts (i.e. brake fluid, pollen filter & bulb).

They have done "speculative" work, you can happily keep the parts / fluids but you do NOT have to pay the labour for doing that speculative work.

Also garages dont always work to the mileage indicated for a service, might be down to the age of the car? might be worth having another look

Good point about the age but the car is only 3 years old....

and according to the service book (miles and age) it's just a oil and filter change....

Oh bugger.....

However they do charge an arm and a leg IMHO

£ 350.00 + VAT for a cambelt change on My Galant 24v V6 - I only wanted it changed not gold-fecking-plated!

I agree, even the most basic service on my Pajero cost over £300!

I worked at a Mitzy garage for a long time..£300 is excessive for whats been done to the spacestar.Where abouts in the country are you as this determines labour rate, and high price sounds labour related.Brake fluid should be changed not just bled.
Pollen filter are changed as schedule, you can spec not too if you wish.
Injectors cleaned? Was this just an additive in the tank?Mitzy do recommend this to keep the nozzle tips clean to avoid missfires, again you can ask not too have it added.

£350 for a cambelt on a quad cam Galant aint too bad,its a pretty involved job and an decent indy will charge £240+ i reckon. But special tools HAVE to be used to keep the cam pulleys in line and to adjust the cambelt tensioner,so be wary.Dont trust any chimp to do it.

The cheapest service for a Shogun/Pajero is about £125 depending on model of course.

Just my 2p worth.

My olds bought a spacestar diesel about 3 yrs ago with free servicing for 3 years. 2nd service my dad went to pick it up and they handed him a £250 bill for the service - he looked at it for about 2 secs then handed it back saying "I think thats for you fella"

Simon.

Well i must have been well & truly shafted, cos for the sake of a dealer stamp
to go in the "history file", I paid over £300 for what amounted to:

Oil & filter change
Air filter
check all belts, joints, brakes, fluids blah blah
grease nipples, joints etc.

Not even the coolant was changed, just topped up.

The most expensive Item was the Oil!

I think it worked out at around £45 p/hr labour ...

I sent a email to Mitsu HQ they were very interested to see the price....

and even admited that it was a bit steep! They've asked the garage for a copy of the invoice!

Now let's see what happens!

Wink

Thanks!

People should send emails to complain about service.... then maybe stories of being robbed by garages will be a thing of the past!

Mitsubishi don't like garages over pricing... cos it's bad for buisness!

Plums..
