Default Which would you buy?

Car 1
Subaru Impreza STI P1 (937/1000) - 2001 Y reg, £12,500 - 49,000 miles. FSSH, Totally standard car excluding exhaust (Keighley Trader Center??)

Car 2
Subaru Impreza V7 STI (Jap import) Excellent Condition 4 doors, 2001 Y reg, £11,500 - 43,000 miles. Private sale, would have to fly to Aberdeen to collect but thats not a problem. 8 hours drive return : )

Could anyone tell me the pro's and con's about the cars and try and help me decide which one to go for? I am going to decide by Thursday which one to buy.

Cheers in advance, MikeyB.

I've had STi8's with PPP and P1's, and for me the P1 is the better car.(plus its a UK car)
Felt better on the road nothing in it speed wise IMHO, only downside is the 2 doors,
But the P1 is a classic and only a thousand were made, makes it in my eyes the better of the 2.

I'd have the P1

Have read many bad stories about the above car garage, do a quick search on scoobynet and you will see what I mean

From the short description car 2 sounds good, just a long long way to travel, you'd be gutted if you decided on this one, went all the way to buy it to find out it wasn't quite as good condition as you wanted etc.

Theres loads of scoobies on autotrader, none any closer that you like?

Oh if in general either a V7 Sti or P1, id have a P1 anyday, but they are usually more expensive (13-15k)

I'd go for the P1, or an RA of the same year if I was you.

Just searhed this forum and a couple of others, and I can now say, I am not buying anything from Keighley Trade Centre. No way!

The guy who is selling the V7 in Aberdeen seems like an honest lad and this is the spec:

" 2001 Jap import (280+ BHP)
I have had the car 2 years now, it has never let me down, the engine and gearbox are like new, no oil useage at all.
Only mods I have done was fit H&R suspension, nice ride height.
I bought a brand new set of STi wheels and tyres about 3 months ago as the wheels that were on were a bit shoddy, so it comes with new bridgestones.
When I bought the car it was already fitted with the morrette conversion and had a jap exhaust system on it. Sounds very nice but not too loud.
I have always run it on optimax fuel and it is garaged every night.
It has an RAC trackster on it (the guy before me fitted it, cost him 600 quid. It also has a Cat 1 laserline alarm system.
The car has done 45,000 miles. There are no dings or dents on it as far as Im aware and the interior is as new."

Does that sound ok to you lot? Don't forget, I am a novice in the Impreza world?

Also, I have just sold my 290 BHP TT Quattro, how will the STI V7 compare in handling and power delivery and the 4 wheel drive system?

Sorry for all the questions, but if you don't ask, you don't get! : )

Dealer in southern Scotland not far from Prestwick Airport. I'm sure they would do you a good deal for cash - as the other guys say though you may find something closer to home.

PM me if you want some more info on this Subaru Dealer - I've bought an STI7, an STI8 and a Ford Puma (don't ask it was for my wife) from these guys. My brother has also bought an STI8 from them because of the unbelievable deal he got trading in his UK300 and a guy from my work has bought 3 Impreza Turbo's from them including his current MY04 WRX.

These guys have had a few P1's and the odd RB5 in the last few months.
(PS - I'm not on commission or anything just recommending a good Subaru dealership)

I would say it would probably be a fair match in a straight line, but the Scoob would take it on the twisties. The TT is some what heavier (+150kg) so that would certainly come into play. As for handling, i cant comment. I have a '98 Wagon and i love it! Have driven a 225 TT and found it quite dull to chuck around. Just my 2p worth....

I don't mind travelling to Aberdeen for the V7 STi as its only an hours flight for £100 notes. Here's a picture of it: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/kevy1975/7.jpg

Keep your opinions coming though! Cheers all!

I live around the Prestwick Airport area and know the S&S mechanics. They send their cars to back street garages in the area because their mechanics don't know how to fix them. To be fair, though, they have only ever taken out three Impreza engines EVER, because of total failure.
But when they are out, they are sent away.

Never a fan of the P1 and if going for the classic shape would be inclined more to go v6 STi. That STi7 is fu#kin LOVELY in white. Defo worth the plane fare to have a look and test drive :-)

Cheers for the advice and opinions. Just needed that extra encouragement to travel all the way to far yonder to check this car out.

I will be taking a bankers draft with me if I do travel! Can't wait!!! : )

I've done all the research on the STI V7 but is there a place where I can get a definitive spec list? Xeon lights etc?
