If you have still got the factory ej257 pistons then i would recomend the 2.5 n/a gaskets that are about 1.4 or 1.6mm thick, this will give you about 8.4:1 compression.
They are the same thickness as the factory ver3-4 headgaskets so the cam timing will be unchanged.
This is what i use on my ej257 with ver3 heads.

Believe the only difference between ver 3 and 4 is the cams..

Have a set of what I believe are STi3 cams at home.. going in my next engine.

Do you have a picture with the cam covers off.. can confirm they are STi3 or 4 rather than someone thought they were etc..

What won't fit under a phase 1 manifold Russell?

I have an early phase 1 manifold attached to a set of Sti 4 heads on an EJ257 bottom end...

They are different to my STi3 cam numbers so think STi4.. assuming mine are infact STi3 of course.. lol

As Tim says they will fit under a phase 1 manifold no problem.

Tim do you still have your STi4 cams??

Simon don't get hung up on the stamped numbers. I have seen 3 sets of supposedly STI3 cams and all had different numbers IIRC your cam measurements match mine, though I can't see the nubers through the covers
