hello can one of you scooby experts tell me difference between wrx and ra ,i have just bought one from auctions at docks,paid 1500 for it ,is this cheap?
1995 with warranted 90kms,but somehow has no carpet,and wind up windows.
and it has cage, can someone throw some light on this for me

Ra stands for race altered......so it will be a wrx type ra.Basically a stripped out lightweight version.

dont think its been in docks as its bone dry, as for driving it i drove it 200 miles back to wales,at 90 plus ,got home and sounds sweet.been offered 3000 for it by local rally boy so cant be that bad surely

F*cking docks auctions. Theyre the reason that Imprezas are worth f*ck all. RAs arent stripped out; the differences are minimal and the weight saving is 30 kilos maximum.

 

They have no soundproofing and usually no creature comforts......lightweight body panels and thinner glass.

 

Totally agree with you, and they aint normally the best of the bunch either

Thats my point exactly Tony; a decent 1993 car costs at least £1,500 at auction in Japan, with all expences, shipping and duties on top. A car sold here for that amount was low grade ****e from a Japanese auction, it cant be anything else.

exactamundo, it was prob sold on the japanese auction house for less than 400 quid, thats if it was fit enough to go through an auction , defo will have been accident damaged and have starship kms, cos the cars brought to the uk dock auctions r just old washing machines sold in japan for spares and repairs, best get shot of asap , no auction report with a decent grade means its not a nice car

 

If you've been offered 3K then take it, i'm pretty sure thats what i would be doing, apart from not having bought the car in the 1st place that is!

 

For what he paided for it and as long as its not dangerous to drive £1500 cant be bad,and he could chuck some money at it and still not be out of pocket if he sells,how many of us can say that?

 

excuse me guys but i do have car in my possesion,and can honestly say the car is right,and have the sheet from japan showing all defects or lack of them.i have just bought a mint carpet fron local breaker and gonna throw away cage and will post pic on here next week for all the cynics to see regards
ps. are the inlet manifolds red on all of them or just on ra

 

Mate, I'm not wishing car trouble on you, far from it and I'd hate for you to lose your money.

 

And neither am I; but as Ive stated, a decent '93 Saloon will sell for over ¥300,000 which at todays exchange rate is £1,502. Transport and de-registration and other fees will add at leat £400, shipping will add a further £400. By the time youve added duty and VAT the car would stand you £2,975. You mighnt want to agree but surely you cant argue with my figures/experience. A car thats sold here, landed, duty-paid for £1,500 must have sold in Japan for about ¥80,000 or less; what do you get for under £500?

yeah guys what you are saying makes sense,but have any of you been to any auctions lately, i saw evo 2 making 1500-1700 and nice car, and 3s about 2000
perhaps jap imports are dropping
ps also mint 1993 32gtr skyline sell for £ 4000 ,my mate bought it
the auctions charter the boat so this is where the saving are made perhaps

 

Well; that sums it up fella: a decent let alone a mint 1993 E-BNR32 costs well over ¥1,000,000 (£5,000) and a mint one will cost about ¥1,500,000 (£7,500) at auction in Japan. The Grade 4 car mentioned last will cost £11,100 landed, Duty-paid. You cant get a 'mint 1993 32gtr skyline sell for £ 4000'; you just cant.

Shipping costs US $68 per cubic metre so theres only £420 to be saved if they shipped it for free. Have you seen how large intercontinental RO-RO ferries are? They dont charter the boat.

 

u could be easily wrong,sometimes u can get a good deal in the auctions

 

I can always be wrong; but Im not incorrect in my description of the Japanese auction market and the value of different models there. When you consider that the shrapnel in docks auctions comes from these auctions, I fail to see how theyre selling supposedly good cars for much less than they were able to buy them for. Poor grade cars on the other hand, sell for very little in Japan.....

Is it a STi RA or a WRX RA?

Even if it was a bad buy, you could break it for lots more than you paid for it. Have fun and try not to overdo it.

 

not expert enough to argue with you all,but the proof is in the pudding they say regards, ps. my mate has just been round and said it is an sti ra,and said car would easily break for 2000, so i am happy anyway

 

I always thought that all wrx cars came with a Silver manifold, all post 94 STIs came with a Red manifold and all pre 96 WRX RA and STI RA models came with a Silver mainold with the 5th Injector on top.

I hope that makes sense as i am now getting confused, especially as many imports have parts swapped over whilst in japan by previous owners.

If it is an STI model you should also have the DCCD button next to the Handbrake Handle.
