Default £380 for a new bumper and fitting!

I need a new bumper and I need it painted and fitted. It never ceases to amaze me the price that garages charge. I was told the bumper was around £130, then with fitting and VAT it comes to just over £380.

It's only money...

Luckily I only have to pay for my own. The annoying thing is less than a month ago I forked out £1500 for 2 new doors and removal of a dent from the back left panel, and fitting and painting. None of that was my own fault, it all happened in France over a 6 month period. All the money I'm forking out on repairs is making me think I'd be better off buying a tank! Or a Defender with a decent engine conversion.

Just out of interest, is that for the front or rear bumper?

That is a great quote, I had a quote for just over a grand, to replace a rear bumper, with spraying, to replace all those little clips and 2 x number plate brackets, dealer prices, got the job done at a local bodyshop for £280 for cash. There was only a scratch on the bumper and they straitened out the brackets.

Think of a figure and double it, then add 25% if the insurance are picking up the bill.

Bumper would be £130 unpainted - painting anything is expensive, not specifically for the cost of paint, which isnt that much, but for the company to buy and run a proper spray booth costs a fortune, so they need to charge a lot to get the money back.
