just had my wrx at the dealer ive used for several years, no issues, the car went in to get an uprated fuelpump (wallbro) and get boost adjusted, go pickup the car after work, drove home, loads of traffic no chance of some testing the boost, did notice when being queued up in traffic, a squeeky noise, i thought nothing of it then, almost home after an hour of chilled driving and i start to notice this sqeeling noise when pressing the clutch down and putting it into second gear seemed abit grinding, i never had any issues with the gearbox or the clutch always been smooth and noiseless, what happend to my car ?


must admit i suspect the mechanic have trashed it abit when setting the boost, very worried now going to call the dealer tomorrow

any ideas to ease my mind ?

 

Sounds like clutch release bearing....

update... new clutch release bearing and some other stuff replaced on my car, tiny metal pieces was found at the bottom plug of the gearbox apperently something had snapped in the clutch besides the clutch release bearing


gear change like a dream now, and a bonus.. no judder anymore when cold..

 

Thats good then...... did they make you pay, or was it a warranty job...??

 

i drove down and talked to the mechanic next morning and we agreed that something had been wrong with the clutch since i bought the car 1½ years ago, 1 week after i bought the car from another dealer the rear diff. snapped something when i was reversing into a park boot making a large bang noise and some funny rattling noises followed when i drove the car, took it straight back and they kept it for a week replacing something in the rear diff under warrenty

since then nothing, except the clutch always been very hard to press down for some reason, so we figured that setting the boost and pushing more bph thru the clutch took it over the top, because now its like stepping into butter and the gear change is even more smooth then it has ever been

quoted a 500 quid for the repair which i will pay 70 percent off

which is ok for me since they took the clutch completely apart to check everything

chunks of metal in the gearbox drain plug won't have come from the clutch, that'll be gearbox internals wearing.

 

apperently theres a rod that the clutch presses in when engaged on the gearbox, that lock ring holding that rod had snapped, i presume that is the front of the gearbox itself, looked like the pieces had come of that ring

gearchange now is as always absolutely noiseless, but im no gearbox specialist

Sorry to say this but:


Inside the bell housing where the clutch sits there is nothing going into the gearbox apart from the main shaft. The clutch slave cylinder pushes the release bearing which moves the friction plate off the flywheel. There are selector forks inside the gearbox that can shear, plus the syncro rings. You can make a dodgy gearbox feel great with thicker oil, but no parts of a clutch can get inside the gearbox.

 

well they called me when i was at work while the car was in to tell me that they needed to take it more apart since they suspected that something had snapped further in and i said ok do it, wanna make sure they wont have to take it apart again and pay labour for that, when i get the details on what they did to the clutch/gearbox ill return with info
