Default Questions: MY? love handles?

1) WHy on this site are the cars ages suffixed with MY eg MY03?
2) EVO states the weight of a impreza at about 1300kg and gives bhp/kg figures accordingly. The chassis plate on my car states the weight at about 1850kg. now where has all this weight come from? Mine is an 03 WRX. Is the STI a lot lighter or are the older shapes lighter than the current shape?

Cheers
G

The plate will state you maximum loaded vehicle weight and a maximum towing weight. Subaru make a Model Year between Autumn - Autumn, not January - December; so, for example, a 'MY '97' may have been manufactured in late 1996.

MY = Model year

The impreza has been around since 1993 and there are so many models to compare. If you read its a MY 96 you'll know its an old classic shaped impreza. If MY02 a bugeye and MY05 current shape.

The weight displayed on the plate will be the all up maximum weight the car can handle. ie 5 people and a boot full of lead!
