Hi All,

I am looking at purchasing a WRX STI ( which i am told by the dealer is the equivalent of an Evo 8 ) and have been drawn to it because of the overall running costs of it vs the Evo 8. Although i like the Evo 8, and having a test drive this weekend i am edging toward the STI.

I was thinking of spending around the £20k mark for one which i am hoping would get me a nice car. Do you think this is resonable?

I have very little knowledge of the Subaru and would not be over keen on buying from a private add unless you guys can give some recommendations on people i could talk to and trust. Does anyone provide a service that will check the car out for you?

Your expert thoughts would be greatly appreicated.

What year is it that you are looking for? You can get a very nice one for 18k from many main dealers. As above the new shape will be here soon so the prices are falling. Also a specialist like Litchfield Imports (they advertise here) they have some Japanese Imports (a better car IMO) for your price range.

Don't be too put off by the higher prices Main dealer are asking , they know the new shape is going to hit the prices of any pre owned currant shapes they have and I'm sure you will be able to haggle on the price quite easily , there's lots of motors out there to choose from and not too many people walking about with around £20k burning a hole in their pockets once they've paid off their holiday

Ok next question, which is vast and what Subaru is all about.

What upgrades would you recommend getting first, want to improve bhp but would welcome advice on what you think would be best to do first. I hear that Subaru are offering the Pro driving upgrade until end of August which i assume is a must.

I believe the Prodrive upgrade is free on new cars but you will have to pay for it on used , or just find a used one with it on already I guess .An STI with the prodrive pack is going to be quite a beast without any other mods and your warranty will remain intact too .

 

Some dealers are doing free PPP (prodrive performance pack, ups the power in a warranty friendly mannaer) and free 3 years servicing on new WRX and STI because they want them shifted before the facelift appears in the next few months. Those are great deals.

You can also get a Euro import from someone like motorpoint or litchfields for about £20K for a brand new STI or £21K with DCCD. No free PPP or servicing on them though.
