OK,
I'm in the position of being with Independant, so I'm in the same boat as most of you.
What I need is an insurance company that will cater for MODIFIED (if only slightly) JAP IMPORTS.
I've tried tesco's and got a quote for a total of 1.9k, which is not too bad, but I'd like it a bit cheaper.
so, who do you guys recommend?

I phoned them, and they told me to phone back once I'd got my cheapest quote, then they'd match it!!
I could have got a quote there and then, but he said if I found a cheaper quote , say, a few days later then the price match offer is invalid and they have to stand by their first quote!
So basically make sure their 1st quote is the price matching one. I assume they must offer less excess or something to perswade you to go with them rather than the company thats previously given the low quote (and done all the hard work!!). I'll find out in a few weeks
Justin

just a little update.
Am seriously considering installing a tracker, probably NavTrack, for some unkown but compelling reason
However, have just spoken to the legend who is John Roberts at Keith Michaels. Sorry about the spelling or the tpying, but I'm still picking myself up off the floor. He quoted me 1300 quid!!!! without tracker. Jeez!!! I've been looking at 1600 - 1900 quid. I'm shocked!!! Still think I'll get a tracker though, would be rude not to as they are cheap (until the 9th july that is)

update
I am getting NavTrak ProActive fitted. Thanks for the super deal Puff. Those who know me know what my feelings are about trackers and why I did not want one, but seeing as the offer is a goodun and only vaild for a very short time now, I thought I might as well bite the bullet.
Plus I've just got a good quote from Jeremy @ Randall Pace, top place, really know their stuff, plus they will insure greys and modded greys at that, and at sensible prices as well. hats off to them

CRAFT,
Randall Pace is a broker, much like Schofields (Rum*/Tom)
Both Jeremy and Tom are setting up a new scheme for scoobies (UK, Grey and modified)
Jeremy's number is 01782 286311
give him a ring and see what he can do for you.

update
just to update you all, as I'm that kinda guy I thought I'd let you know that today I got my cancellation letter from PriceWaterhouseCoopers (Independants Liquidators) Giving me 7 days notice of policy cancellation.
So what I have done about insurance? Well, I'm sticking with Tom (Rum*) as his and Jeremy's new scooby friendly scheme gave me one of the best quotes I've had so far. Plus there is the fact that in the year of being with Tom it's been the most pleasurable experience i've had with an insurance company. Plus Tom gives the best service possible, way, way above and beyond the call of duty as well.
So, it's Schofields for me again! yay
I am a very happy bunny.
I would suggest that if you have a scooby, be it UK or Jap, and moreso if it's modified, then you give Tom @ Schofields or Jeremey @ Randall Pace a call. I say 'or' as they are both using the same quote system, so ring one or other as they'll give you the same service and same quote, and if you do ring both it'll just cause them a waste of time, which is not on. They are both top guys and really know thier beans, plus they have scoobies as well, which is nice
Hats off to you both guys, keep up the good work

Mark,
Thank you for your comments...they are all appreciated.
I am pleased that we have managed to sort out a decent quote for you.
In many cases we have managed to assist clients, however, to the few that on this occasion we have not managed to assist...remember us at renewal, cos we'll still be here, and more than willing to try and help.
Once again Mark, many thanks for the comments.
All the best
Tom
P.S. The quote/figure I gve you today was the correct revised (cheaper!!! ) price including Bonus Protection...it just keeps getting better!!!...he he he

A bit late on this one.
If you have a grey or modified car and have a competition licence try calling Competition Car Insurance (Egger Lawson) on 0115 941 5255 and tell them its is a recce or management car for rallying. They do limited (1000, 2000 and 5000) and unlimited policies. Got my 95 Jap WRX wagon for 1047 on 5k miles (second car) with no NCD!

CMA,
I would assume that you only use the wagon for "recce or management car for rallying" if not then you might be up the creek if you have to claim and you're on the road.

Graham,
My apologies if we weren't able to assist with your quotation (which unfortunately I can't locate to check on the price)...
As Jeremy stated, we are not always the cheapest...equally Privelege are not always the most competitive...
I could quote numerous cases where we had undercut the Direct Companies...and I am sure they could do the same with us.
One thing I would say is that we offer a service that I hope is excellent for all our clients...
Anyway, once again I am sorry if we quoted you a figure that was considerably more than Privelege...
All the best
Tom

Sorry Out of circulation for a few days.
For information my 95 WRX is a recce car, it is insured for 5000 miles per annum not on events. Event mileage is free.
It has a Prodrive sump shiled and tank guards. The cone filter is to avoid swamping the air box in water splashed and the four point harneses are for comfort.
To check the car can usually be seen on Sennybridge ranges twice a year, Otterburn Range twice a year, the Jim Clark once a year (Scottish boarders) and on the Isle of Mull one a year. I addition to Recc duties the car is foten used as a chase or management car to support he rally car on events.
Remeber thiere are possibly two sorts of Scooby owners, those that have them for their pedigree and those that would be ying Ford's RS products if another manufacturer had not made such a damn good value quick car.
Insuring a Grey car with mods is not cheap and I was teryin to help. Thanks for the flames and sarcasm. I trust you can insure your vehicles with a totally honest declaration of any damage, not insurance only claims etc. for a good price.

CMA,
Apologies if I offened you.
Was a bit quick off the mark, thought that you might be insinuating that this was a nice way round the normal road insurance thing. Now see that this is not the case and you do use the car for recce duties. Pity I can't do the same with mine.

NFU dont seam to mind any mods! & quoted me above without the need for alarm or tracker!!!!!! Suffice to say alarm fitted - gives me £125 discount!!!!!!!!!
