Taken back by the fuel economy
Just thought i'd post this on here as I was totally amazed at the economy recieved by a 380 mile round trip to Bristol earlier on this week in my WRX03.
All motorway, brisk driving keeping it below three figures but mostly near three figures
. Stopped overnight and drove back the following afternoon.
43.20 litres to fill, and 300 miles to empty near the same point = between 28-30mpg. Fuel price 94.9. Fuel was Shell optimax.
TOP CAR IMO - Fuel economy is just a bonus

I drive a 350 mile round trip, Peterborough - Hereford and back, once a week. Mainly motorways with a bit of A-road at each end. I regularly get 28-29mpg cruising at 85-90mph.
It's a shame that I only get 18-20mpg the rest of the time.

My best four averages between fills (Optimax) have been 32MPG - a right old mix of roads and conditions with some boosty moments too - but no short journeys on cold engine. MY01 Bugeye WRX. Worst average has been 24MPG which includes larger ratio of shorter journeys. I think that Optimax gives a marginally better MPG so helps cancels out the extra cost per litre.
I managed to achieve about 17mpg average from a full tank with committed weekend driving. I always use optimax and find that it definitely gives better mpg. When driving the car normally on standard unleaded I am lucky to break 280 miles. When using optimax around 310 miles is the norm (lightly modified MY01).
cool, I forgot to mention, I had to fill up on the motorway services and the only fuel available was BP standard 95 unleaded which I had no alternative but to use. I couldn't believe how much it reduced the performance... for example when i briskley booted it in fourth the power died short of 5000rpm which was scary.
Re-filled with SUL now which is ace.
ScoobyTom... Type 25, isn't that the one with over 300bhp????... you are doing well to earn that type of economy if its the one i'm thinking of. Nice one dude.

ok i think ur figures are a little inaccurate! 17mpg is BAD! 310 miles from a scoobs tank is amazing! my 00 plate P1 gets around 200-220 miles from a tank (£40) and the mpg works out around 20-22.
As for the 17mpg - I don't think that’s bad when driving the car hard on B-roads. Peachy must be getting significantly worse than that and apparently single figure mpg's are possible on track days.
Think this all depends on driving style and the road type. Constant acceleration - brake - acceleration is going to drink fuel whereas steady off boost motorway cruising isn't obviously.

I seem to average about 280-300 miles to a tank. I use Optimax and generally drive 27 miles to work. Approx 75% is M1 motorway doing about 70-80.
I am assuming that is normal. Going to put some new Platinum plugs in this weeks, so hopefully this will help it out a bit.

hmmmmm just reading post, just filled my tank with super unleaded and off down to chester at the weekend will have to see what I get out of it after a tank has been emptied.......
will be worse then the FTO GPX I think.....
or should I just ignore it and enjoy the car

Went to Chester for my long drive and put £45 last weekend from just going onto red.....(Super unleaded 97 RON)
250 miles then red light came on for res tank.......
does anyone know how much is in the reserve tank or how much you should get out of it???

filled up last night, (after resisting the pointless queues day before)
put 45 litres of optimax in, and had just acheived 200miles so i work that out at 20mpg
i think i broke 4k rpm on maybe a dozen times last week...

Recently got 370 miles from a tank to Aberdeen and back 32 mpg compared to the usual 26
.....MY00 Turbo 2000.........off to Blackpool in November to see Feeder.......dont really give a toss but would expect about the same.....

The only way to get 30+mpg from a WRX (MY01) is to stick below 3k rpm's at all times and don't take her above 77-78mph on the motorway.
There's no way doing just under 3 figures mph on the m/way will return 30+mpg....NO WAY!
As soon as it goes over 3k rpm's (77-78mph) they start guzzling fuel.

I've got an MY01 WRX and I can only get 50 litres in from 'dry' - not a 60 litre tank.......
