Question

Just some advice really

I had 3 points back in Jan 1997, how long do they last on your license, so that you can tell the insurance that it is clean?
Some say 4 years is that right?

I was wondering about that too! I've got three points from November '98 and I think they come off your licence after three years (ie this November), but from what i remember the insurnce co asked for any points in the last 5 years!

I'm thinking that when it come to renewal time (late november) they will have gone off my licence so no need to tell the insurance co.

Hi,

You have to disclose minor convictions for the last five years to Insurers even if off your licence. Convictions such as Dangerous Driving, Drink Driving and Careless is usually for 10 years.

I would recomend asking the company as this can be different.

After three years you can send the DVLA your licence and they will wash it for you and send it back with no trace of points at all.

It says four years at the bottom of the page, but at the top it says 'if you get 12 points in a period of 3 years you are liable to disqualification'
