Default Those trays under vents?

What is the need for the trays which are bolted on under the bonnet vents? Surely the engine will run cooler as taking them off will allow hot air out? they must be there for a reason but cant think why?

Youll get better cooling without and youll hear the turbo spooling up better. The only downside i can see is youre engine will get dirty. I know mine did!!

So are you saying by leaving them on, the cooling is better and you can hear the turbo spool up better?

There has been tonnes of posts on this and people say it is bad for the engine - Apparently and I am only quoting from previous posts the engine bay becomes hotter.

That water still goes into engine bay even with the vents on - just in a more controlled manner.

IMO leave both 'trays' on unless you have OE airbox or enclosed filter - in which case you may want to remove the one on the drivers side.

If you have an induction kit it is not worth removing because it will cause a chimney effect and draw the hot air towards the filter side of the bay.

If removing the drivers side tray causes a chimney effect and draws the hot air towards the filter, wouldn't doing the opposite (removing the nearside tray, and leaving the offside on) draw hot air away from the filter? Never considered the chimney effect before but it does stack up, particularly given the lack of ducting dynamics of these vents.

No.
The air comes though the front and though the bonnet vent in considerable quantities, this flows down the back of the engine, over the intercooler and down the bulkhead (theoretically) so you get a nice flow of air coming in.
Those vents dont actually let that much air in, and when you have greater pressure, less pressure doesnt do anything.
They are actually just cosmetic vents on the bonnet, they will let heat out though.
