Question The Oh So Familiar Upgrade Bug…….

The story so far….

Bought 2004 WRX new. Loved it.

Added PPP. Wow, this is fabulous, must have more of same but brakes are going to kill me.

Bought 2005 STi new with PPP. This is better than sex, must have more of same. (Is there any pills or ointment that stops whatever bug I’ve got?)

End result is in a couple of month’s time I’ll be even poorer after some engine work at RCMS. Quandary is do I save money and use the existing ECU or do I invest in a Motec ECU so I have a complete PPP to sell?

What is a complete 2000 mile PPP worth for a 2005 STi?

Are 2005 STi 500cc injectors worth anything?

Is a stock 2005 STi turbo worth anything?

Any comments welcome, apart from “your barking mad, find better sex”

Henry

Nothing short of a full lobotamy will help you I'm afraid.

Even Subaru can't give PPP's away

I don't think you can just sell a PPP'd ECU to someone. As there car won't reconise it. So I believe, an ECU like a key has a code that the car recognises, just plugging in another ECU won't work, that's why your ECU has to be sent to Prodrive to be updated, rafter than replacing the ECU.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

A very good point and I'm sure you are correct. Plan A may be sinking without a trace...

turbo £300
Injectors - £200

and you could ask more

what are RCM doing, they are very good

think your old ECU will work in any 05 car but will need to get the key code changed - dont think its worth swapping my self when you think how many cars are running 400bhp plus on std ecu. If I was after launch controll etc for competition use I might say otherwise

Thanks, some idea of values is handy.

Basic plan is Garrett GT35 turbo + 3” full exhaust + SS Header + 550-600cc injectors + Some induction changes + Remap. Things may change and no doubt other bits will be added.

Only the keys will need to be re-programmed, easy.

Sweet, that make complete sense. If the complete PPP package is saleable for sensible money I might go with the Motec ECU. That way I’m covered if things get even more out of hand

Sounds like you have the same bug as me, after all it's quite obvious to me that 400+bhp is required to move one person at 60mph

I have just thrown £11,000 under my bonnet, my P1 has got 370 bhp from RCM.But with engine re-build end of the year i have all the bits for 450BHP already on the car.Depends how far you want to go.I have Motec,GT35 turbo and a load of other bits.It is worth getting it done.

I run mine on motec with the gt35 seems to run very well but just for the 2 your looking at over £4k.

Martin the gt35 is only rated at 400-420 bhp if your looking at 450 you will need the gt30.

The gt35 p20 has been fitted to another P1 that RCM have done and it got 450BHP mapped with nf on the rollers
