Thumbs up

Here is some info from another thread:

This is NOT bull**t. This email came from someone in the team responsible for buying petrol at Tesco HQ. You can tell by the marketing speak!

" Yes its true, another Tesco first, we are trialling a 99 octane super
unleaded petrol grade in 12 sites around the South East of England.

This will be competitvely priced compared to our Oil Company competitors and will be subject to our usual price check so as to ensure we match the lowest price locally for this grade.

It will be labelled as 99 octane and we will therefore always ensure it meets this octane level as a minimum.

So those lucky enough to have scoobies and the like should feel a
benefit in performance without it hitting their pockets too hard.

Roll out to further stores ( in the S.E. area only) depends are how customers respond - so come on down.

We are also selling "standard" super unleaded - 97 octane, in 12 stores based around the Midlands and South Wales, again a trial to gauge customer reaction.

99 OCTANE STORES:
Beford 1
Cheshunt Extra
Crawley Hazelwick
Gallions Reach Extra
Gillingham Kent
Lakeside Extra
Ramsgate Manston
Salisbury 2
Sandhurst Extra
Sevenoaks Riverhead
Stevenage Extra
Winchester

97 OCTANE STORES
Banbury
Bicester 2
Cardiff Extra
Culverhouse Cross
Neath Abbey
Penarth
rdditich Extra
Stratford Upon Avon
Warwick
Worcester

Us peasant's up north, obviously don't have good enough car's to warrant Tesco selling 99 ron up here. Austin Alegro's just don't need it.

I wouldn't use any fuel Tesco or other Supermarkets produce. Still inferior despite the ron.

Optimax may be more but you'll run far better economy and, in my opinion, better performance not to mention better quality of detergents.

Cheapest Shell in Berkshire tends to be the one just off Junc. 11 on the old Reading Road by HP.

price of crude oil has gone up this week.

expecting rises in garage forecourts.

supermarket fuel inmho is no worse than normal fuel and from the reports I have seen from those in the know testing tesco's fuel, it has been very well rated.

lol better performance?!?!. how is it? better economy ? no

it is 1 ron lower than tesco! also if you need 100ron for jap cars and u use 98ron optimax u will need more booster. i would rather use less booster and purer fuel! as for better quality of detergents just becasuse its 'tesco own' and not 'optimax' doesnt mean its bad quality

I heard somewhere that it is Esso that produce the 99RON stuff for Tesco.

Just in case you were interested (not even sure if it is true )

its quite funny litening to folk saying one company fuel is better than another, if you live or work close to a refinary you will see it all comes from the same place just with a different badge.

Just what i was thinking. Its not like every supermarket chain has there own massive oil refinary in the warehouse out back

Only difference is probably any additives added such as in Optimax.

True, but different tanks hold different blends, just as 95RON unleaded and 97 RON unleaded are in seperate tanks, so are the different blends, or as mentioned, additives are added when they are loaded into lorries for delivery.

The refinery close to me (not shell) supply local Shell garages, but not Optimax! That all comes from a different refinery.

1 point will still equal better performance, I didn't say it would be significant. A cleaner burning fuel will also give an increased performance and a better economy as it's a more efficient fuel volume per volume.

Detergent wise I base this on reports from a couple of years back so this could easily not be the case now. As far as performance and economy go, just physically driving with the differeing fuels shows for me personally what I'd rather be putting in my cars. Perhaps the percieved peformance gain is more pyschological but the petrol gauge doesn't lie.

Tesco's 99 ron has been in Tesco's Colchester (Highwoods) for about 3 weeks now and the GT4 loves it on 88.9p too unless the prices have gone up today !
