Unhappy **URGENT**help required !!!knocking sound

car is a 2000 uk model with full dealer history and only 41k...not chipped or messed with.
it has just started to give a heavy knocking sound from the engine,if i leave the car for a while and re-start it it knocks very hard for the first couple of micro seconds then quietens down,as the oil presure builds up...

i doubt it's the big ends/crank bearings or such a low mileage engine ???
do they have hydralic tapppets that could be stickin ???

any advice greatly appreciated..
i live in county durham if anyones local ..

MY99 UK was on 65k miles and needed a rebuild, cost a little short of £2.5k.

My 93 WRX just suffered (big style) with the crank going (I'm looking at a pretty major bill right now). I had a knocking sound coming from the middle of the engine around 2-3,000rpm although it never quietened down after the car warmed up.

Best bet is drive it calm and get it to someone in the know asap.

Hope it all comes good,

Kel

Have you replaced the MAF Sensor at all??

Now I don't run with what I'm about to say, but -

Some people claim that the MAF on a 2000 Impreza is suspect, the ECU is also as thick as Vicky Pollard and cannot detect a drift out of tolerance ..... this then knocks the Big End bearings out!!

As I said .... its what others say .... I think its poppycock, but you may wish to take it on board??
