WRX and STI at Cost price - Free PPP
Got a flyer today from my dealer telling me that they are running deals on all Subaru models at cost price + delivery. Incl free PPP.
So how much IS cost price

and insurance is a lot more expensive for most I would suspect given the farce with insurance companies and PPP being either not really known about or classed as an after market mod etc etc. Insurance really is a joke over in the UK bout time the government gave them a good shake up and got them sorted out.
I wouldn't of thought it would bother Subaru Japan much about insurance. Remember its a Prodrive addition and not factory fit. I agree with the coorporate deal thing but I doubt that will ever happen. If the car were bought into the country with PPP that would be different but then they wouldn't get round the emmissions thing. My insurance ain't too bad even with PPP

We've already worked on this and Subaru Insured are well aware of the PPP and can offer great rates in most cases as can others like A Plan.
The fuel consumption comment is a complete red herring I think. The potential exists to use more fuel but in normal use I would doubt that you would notice a difference and if you did, you'd be noticing an improvement in fuel economy particularly when cruising.

Out of interest Mike, what is the performance increase in percentage terms for a MY05Sti without PPP to one with PPP.
I'm curious as most insurers ask or want a % increase figure to quote for insurance. I'm thinking of getting the PPP pack at some point but dont know all the ins and outs involved yet. Obviously I need to get insurance quotes etc before I go ahead with a £2k upgrade. I bought my MY05 STi when the free servicing offer was running. Currently my insurance is expensive enough at around £900 per year for me and the wife. We both have 7 yrs no claims bonus and no convictions etc, we're both 29 yrs old. If insurance hikes up much more than £1000pa I would possibly not bother with it.
Cheers

Mike, is the boost level for the MY05 STi PPP the same as the non-PPP car? I got 20psig pre-PPP and 20psig post PPP (both measured on the same Defi gauge) - is it just breathing and fuelling mods rather than lifting the boost.
On the consumption side, I get 23ish mpg round town and had 27 on a run - just had a week up in Scotland and got 19mpg "playing"
and 33mpg on cruise mode

My car's only got 4k miles on so no way loosened up yet (had PPP on from 2700 miles as I was in the free servicing offer before PPP option) It's the driveability / flexibility that where biggest gains are to be had - squirting past people is a doddle now

Thanks,
Andy

Went to my local dealer today, to try and reserve an STI for September, as I dont want the new shape - due in October. They were not very flexible on the price and the price had gone up, since I went in 6 weeks ago. The PPP offer has been extended until September - but I thought that they might do a better deal on the car price.
...before the next STI arrives.
If the rumoured 06 US Spec 2.5 STI does match the current UK STI with PPP, I guess IM could potentially have a good few month's allocation to shift; if a lot of potential owners are waiting for the new 2.5 engine in the STI.
A shame that Subaru doesn't fit the PPP as standard in the factory, for the export market, with a slightly meatier cat to get over the emissions.
Getting a notoriously under-reading rolling road with a badly performing example, and the figures won't look much different.
It'll be a while before the insurance companies catch up.
I wish I could afford a new one...:-(

While I an dmany others fully appreciate that this is an opportunity for many insurance companies to quote, the relaity is that many do not. I tried Subaru Insured for a MY05 WRX with PPP and they quoted some ridiculous figure (about £1500). So sure, they can insure it, but that's crazy. Bear in mind this is for a 35 year old, garaged car, clean licence and 9 years NCB in a decent area of Surrey, and the final choice, L&V, was at £800, then it's not really worth it for those rates.
Bottom line is that while we all understand the emissions issue that Suabru has, the fact that this is seen as an after-market modification makes it fit into the Max Power brigade, rather than an approved development of the car which is 'almost' factory-fitted. As a comparison, I compared the most equivalent Evo's and the difference in cost was about £50. So, in essence, we're saying that by fitting this after the car is sold costs me some £350 over a standard WRX, when the same with an Evo (which has pretty much the same mods) would be £50, that sums it up...
