Default Private Reg - negotiation

Has anyone bought a private reg on Newreg.co.uk?

Reason I ask is that I have found an absolutely mint plate but am not willing to pay the asking price of £3k especially as I know it has been on the market for ages. I'm looking to pay £1800 max.

Can you ask the dealer to negotiate with the vendor? Would call them to ask but they are closed now.

phone them up tell them what you are willing to pay.... then they will go to the seller and ask if he will accept. Mines on there for 1500 but if i get half that i'll be happy.

Thats probably all it is worth, plate traders put an absolute fortune on top of the face value to get their cut.

Have you checked else where for it? It may be cheaper on a different site.

Its up for a lot more than £3k elsewhere so I assume Newreg are being most realistic in terms of their commission.

try looking for it on dvla's own site. i got mine 2yrs ago directly from them + saved loads. most other places charge the transfer fee on top but at dvla, what you see is what you pay

Default 300 WRX

Spoke to Newreg this morning, not interested in the £1800, so I'm not bothering, i'll look for something more reasonable.

FYI it was

300 WRX

its still available and lowest offer I have had so far is £2800. You could probably knock more off but I was probably taking the p1ss with £1800.

Try looking on the DVLA website. A lot of these companies advertise plates that they don't own. You buy off them for, example, 3k. They then buy the plate off DVLA for say 2K, and make a grand profit.
There was something in one of the covernment bills to try to stop this, but don't know if any legistration has gone through.
