Default ICE on new STI UK

love my new STI type uk. Just had the PPP fitted and have carefully amassed 720 miles on her.
My only gripe with the car is the CD player/ speakers. - They are pants! As lovely as the engine sounds now I do like a bit of U2/ COLDPLAY to be heard over the growl. Any way above half volume and the quality is not good. Realise the Scoobs great qualities are not in the head unit but hey im sure Japan can turn out better factory fitted players than this!
Is there an upgraded ICE / speakers from Subaru or shall i take it down to halfords and see what they have?
Im not into pimping my ride with some hoodie style sound system to be heard by half the street, but i do like a decent noise level while I am on the road.
ICE upgrade recommendations gretly appreciated.
Paul

Just had my 05 STI ICE done.

JVC KDAVX1 Head unit
Optional JVC DAB unit
Pioneer speakers all round

Sounds excellent and very discreet.

Had mine done by a car audio/entertainment specialist - excellent job and good price! (better price than Halfords)

I take it, they removed the all in one system, and put in a new head unit, do you get a blanking cap or little recess thingy now then ??

Standard system is crap.
Im in the middle of stripping the car down and sticking in a focal sub, Audison amp, Sony MD H/U and some 6" Rainbow Components up front recommended by Turners, a long with a load of dynamat

The Rainbow components really did sound great in the shop and I recommend them. I preferred them to Infinities.

I should have it sorted by Sunday evening when i get time to finish it off

It cost me £800 all in including fitting and running a cable for my ipod into the arm rest pocket.
Done at uplands Exeter - excellent job.
Good price considering I got:-

H/unit
DAB add-on
DAB Aerial
Front speakers
Rear speakers
Dynamat to rear speakers
Pocket under head unit
Ipod cable fitment
All fitting
