Currently in the middle of rebuilding my STi 5 engine with uprated internals, pistons, rods, bearings, etc....
My goal is to get to or slightly over the 400bhp mark with ???lb/ft of torque (as much as i can really). I dont want too big a turbo which would result in a slow spool up and an unusable power band for real roads.
The options so far are:
TD05/06 20g
TD05/06 18g
Been told a GT35 with P20 or P18 would be good but not sure if that would be too big, anyone using one, on a 2L?
Anymore i should consider?
Any advice/feedback welcome.

Fuzz runs one of the Garrett Hybrids that are available from places such as Lateral Performance/Roger Clark Motorsport/BRDevelopments etc.......
He has pushed his UK car to 400bhp+, along with R.B, Bob Rawle, Fangoria etc.........
This turbo is awesome IMHO, and is the next step up from the TD05/06 hybrids in terms of retaining OE positioning.
I really want to try one on my car, as I am stuck at under the 400bhp mark, but funds wont allow at the moment!!
400bhp IS achievable from the TD hybrids, but it will take alot of carefull planning/supporting mods/mapping to get there I reckon.
Speak to someone like Mark @ Lateral or Pavlo @ Zen although I suspect they will be along here soon to advise anyway.

IMO, the TD05 18G is a bit small for 400bhp, the 20G can make it, but really needs some help with an octane booster to make sure. The TD06 version will certainly make it, + some, but will be a few 100rpm laggier.
The VF/Garrett hybrids are well proven at 400bhp, and more, depending on which version.
Because of the parts, and labour involved, they are quite a bit more than the TD alternatives.
Depending on your budget, and the rest of your mod's, the 20g will make it, if you run either NF, or some methanol to make sure.
Mark.

Will have to make some enquiries regarding cost differences but i do like the idea of being able to make 400 on pump fuel (Garret) and still have a little to spare bhp wise.
Cheers for the input so far, bit of a headache with the vast choice of turbo's on offer.

i currently run a td05H20G and it's making about 400-420bhp at 1.5 bar
Spoolup is pretty good, on my JDM 6 speed in 6th gear i have 1.0 bar at 2900 rpm.
I must say that its oke but i'm still looking for just that bit more so i'm looking in the same direction as you are. Not sure what to take next though but i'm thinking of a td06 or superzilla from deadbolt

Gents:
I scraped 407 x 340 on my Sti V3 with a TD05 20g from AndyF.
Runs Optimax + full dose of NF
Has a bit of lag, but easy to drive 'above' it when you are gunning the car.
AndyF has a Garrett on his drag car and so have the other real experts (many named above), expert as they have done it with great effect.
I think we should all wait for them to perfect the 'next generation' beyond the 20g barrier.
Incidentally, how did you get to 1.5 bar on your 20g, we could only muster 1.4.
Is a stock Sti v3 capable of tolerating a bigger turbo?
Car is very nice @ 407 bhp..

From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?
Graham,
Mark allready has with the garrett/p18/p20 turbo.
Triplex theres a fair difference in cost.. id much rather have a proper garrett

But doesn't that mean ******* about with up pipe and down pipe flanges to get it to fit?
A lot more hassle to those who would just want to "bolt something on" to standard parts.
the BRD VF/Garret hybrid makes 1.0 bar by 3000rpm.
oh and give or take a little fettling of the bellhousing with a file, bolts straight on to OEM uppipe flanges.

was £1206 or £1306 quid with fitting kit (prices could have changed though)

andy,
but you do need a decent up-pipe and down pipe with the turbo, so you have to buy them anyway IYSWIM.

911,
did a quick test today and watched the rev counter at the same time as the speedo (and trying to watch the traffic !) and full boost is at around 3500 (3400 in 6th). It does appear that the boost does not tail off until the redline, but with todays traffic I can't guarantee that statement.
BTW; I have the GT Spec Gen II headers and uppipe fitted.

As said with the p18/p20 turbine housing it will bolt straight on, just need an inlet pipe with a bigger opening to the turbo.
David, still need to shop around for prices, its only money!
